Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • MK 7.5 Golf Traffic enablement

    Hello All,

Havent been able to get the traffic to enable(show) on my new MY18 7.5 Highline. The coding is accepted and the channel is set to 1024 as needed, but isnt working.

Has anyone been able to get this working on a late build model? Mine is Built 10/17
Both RDS and TP program are enabled and showing on the top of the screen, radio has been left to sit for time also.

Have enabled traffic in many MQB based cars including 7/17 built 7.5 Golf also.

Only thing that isnt coded and is annoying!!!1 Please let me know

    Thanks

^^^^Andrew: just as a suggestion, after you have entered 1024, make sure that you have the highlighted software switches set as per the picture below.

Then do a complete reset of the MIB unit- with the radio switched-on, press and keep holding-down the ON/OFF knob until the MIB turns off, then turns on again. Then press the TRAFFIC button

      Don
Please don't PM to ask questions about coding, or vehicle repairs. The better place to deal with these matters is in the forum proper. That way you get the benefit of the wider expertise of other forum members! Thank you.

HRSS230: Hi - very good question!! I never say that anything is never possible - But I suspect that it would be quite a task to get TMC displayed on a MIB that doesn't have SATNAV.

The raw data for TMC is carried on FM radio on the RDS sub carrier. Within a Golf mk7 (or mk7.5), this signal is intercepted by the GPS function in the MIB to inform the map/message table where traffic jams, congestion, roadworks, accidents and other routing challenges may be present. That's why it's important to ensure that the RDS software switches on the module @ address hex5F is set for RDS.

The protocol that is used for TMC is strictly controlled (by ISO 14819) and it can be encrypted - I'm not sure whether it is in Australia.

The most important aspect of a possible "hack" is that the TMC message merely sends data-packets containing “bit-mapped” information including an event description identifier, the location identifier, location/extent/direction, duration etc. Critically though, a lot of the data including the actual location co-ordinates for the traffic ciongestion are not sent via the FM sub-carrierr. Instead, there are "smarts" within the SATNAV receiver that will contain the necessary algorithms or look-up tables to translate the codes back into readable screen information. To further complicate matters, TMC can also utilize encryption which makes "hacking" even more problematic.

So, never say never, but I suspect that you would have better odds winning Tatslotto - without buying a ticket!!

Did today on a Co-workers Golf 1.4T Mk7.5 via OBDeleven

Set Fee based Traffic to: 1024
                              byte_13_RDS to Not_Deactivated ( ie Activated)
                              byte_13_Radio_Text_Plus was already 'Activated'

Backed out of Coding to home screen, Press and hold power till it turns back on. Select Traffic after the reset, worked in like 30sec.

                              Thanks!
