Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Which model do I have?

    Hi,

have recently purchased a late 2011 (first reg'd 2012) model turbo diesel, for my Daughter as her first car.
Apart from a year range, I can't seem to find in the forums, what I have.

As I mentioned, it is a late 2011 model and the compliance plate shows Model 5K1 and Type 22N.

Does this make it a Mk6?

Which is the most appropriate forum for my research on this car. Any replies of assistance are much appreciated.

    Cheers Fireup01

Should be a sticker on the B pillar or in the boot with the build date on it. Be aware with a diesel it needs a good hot run often or the DPF will soot up and they arent cheap.
Not a car for a tootle to work each day

It must also be filled with VW approved 504/507 grade oil VW use Castrol professional III at huge prices. You can buy stuff like Penrite Enviro+ or a different Catstrol Edge for a lot less and supply your own at oil change time.

Thanks Hillbilly, that's a great bit of info right there. I had a look and it is a little confusing, as the two tags say different info:
On the B Pillar it says: Built Sep 11, Model 5K1 and Version 22N
In the boot it says: 01/12 and type 1K
