Good to hear you found your rattle - but ive basically ruled out exterior rattles for now (after extensive searching and trials) as im pretty positive the sound is coming from within the dash cavity inside the car.

Result - Removed insulation under the bonnet and removed the metal grip off a piece of that nylon strapping material.
It was sliding from side to side when changing direction.

Maybe worth $100 maybe nothing LOL

Why that would be there beats me. Maybe had attached itself to felt bit
Sorry - just remembered that i hadn't replied back.....unfortunately the knee airbag was not the solution. After removing the airbag on Sunday and applying a liberal amount of foam padded tape to all contact points, the rattle is still there as annoying as ever.

I was really hopeful the knee airbag was going to be the answer - but unfortunately not.

Believe me this sounded like it was in the dash then i worked out it was sliding across on corners so tried the bonnet on the off chance and there it was.

Now if I could only find what sounds like a loose washer in left rear I would be happy.

Theres a thread in the Polo 6R section about the loose washer in the rear noise - suspension mounts: http://www.vwwatercooled.com/forums/...d.php?t=100233

Either dsg or manual check where the selector cables run from under the bonnet looking down at transmission dsg one cable manual two cables they always touch part of the heat shield. Push heat shield down away from cable. Give that a shot.

I would have suggested that but Lucas is pretty clued up in that area since he has mounted his own DP numerous times and clearance issues are quite a challenge to get right with the manual selector cables.

Thanks for the suggestion, but i have checked and adjusted this area (and the other head shields) previously. I currently have 1/2 the interior removed on the drivers side and the rattle is louder/more obvious that ever....so its got to be inside somewhere.

The microphone i ordered turned out to be utter rubbish and all you can hear is crackling etc - so ive scrapped that idea and back to banging on things, wiggling things and tightening things etc.

Yeh i dont think its a heat shield rattle as ive removed so many of them, added padding and re-shaped others etc etc.

Not necessarily. The things you've removed muffle the sound that could be still coming from the under the car somewhere.

I'll stand by my original post. Lucas, you said the rattle was evident at a certain rev range. It's got to be Turbo or exhaust or gearbox related. Or perhaps it's caused by the angle of the driveline under stress at certain rev ranges. It just doesn't make any sense that it would be coming from inside the car. Is it dsg or manual??

Wont run with the CECM and dash cluster removed, but both of those bits are back in now.

Knee airbag is securely (ahem...gaffa taped) mounted to the side of the centre console for now. All the other stuff missing is just trim pieces etc....looks horrible but car still runs fine.

Still cannot find this damn rattle!?!?!?!?!? I feel like pushing this car off a cliff.

Lucas when did it start to rattle? Maybe a clue.... and then again maybe not.

Have you had anyone else listening for this rattle in your car? Ideal situation is to have one person driving/creating the rattle and someone else looking for the source of the rattle, preferably someone with perfect hearing.
