my R wouldn't start up last week... my fault for playing with the stereo (headlights on) for an hour or so with the engine off.

called the VW assist phone number on the windscreen sticker and they came around to jump start it (for free since car < 3 years old). all good since then and now i have a jump starter in my garage (which i'll take with me on long trips)

at the time, because i was in a rush to go somewhere, and had access to a 2nd car, i didnt think of calling VW assist at all

car is going in for 45K service this week so hopefully when they test the battery it shows signs of aging ?

Emergency! Mk6 Golf R -wont start!!!!!

So this morning when i went to start the car i put the key in and everything worked like normal, then when i went to crank it over, it made a tick tick tick noise and the epc, battery and engine light came on. The car still hasnt started. Dont know what the issue is, it almost seems to start resetting and starting the electrics all over again.

If anyone knows what the problem is or have any ideas please let me know ASAP
          Thank you

Sounds like the battery is dead.

Dead battery — but check for loose or corroded terminals first.

Ok, thanks guys, yeah i just got the multimetre out and it is the battery. Only has 10.20volts off and drops to 5 volts when you kick it over. So looks like a new battery. Thanks for all your help

Also when putting the new battery in, is there any procedures to follow or tricks to it?

Negative terminal off first, negative terminal on last.

Basic tools only. Ratchet, long extension and 13mm socket, and a 10mm spanner. Should take you about 5mins tops.

You may need to enter the security code for the radio. If you have not got it, you will have to talk to your dealer. They are supposed to provide it free, but many charge because they may have to physically remove the radio to get the stamped serial number from which they generate the code.

Only need the code if you put it in another car.

As above, but you will need to reset your one touch windows and clock.

HI guys! I have the same symptoms as the OP as well, does that mean my battery is flat as well? I have a 2010 Golf R. When I disconnect the negative terminal of the battery the alarm goes off......... Would someone please be able to help me and provide me with some advice on how to get around this Sorry I am kind of new to VW cars( Thanks in advanced.

Also I am looking at some replacement batteries just in case it is a dead battery. A bit confused as to which one is right....my budgets around the 200-300 mark. Just want something reliable.....Will the ones from K-Mart suffice? As they are within walking distance from me...
