7 speed dsg clutch life rating

I have searched this forum, including the dsg questions thread, but did not find any info on the dq200's clutch life.

What's the highest mileage anyone here has run without having to change their clutches? I have heard it is rated up to 300,000 km. Can anyone confirm this too?

Approximately 37000km's in a 118tsi and similar km's in a polo GTI. I think they accidently put an extra 0 on the end if they say it is rated at 300 000.

I'm on 53500 km so far so just wondering when I would have to change mine.

I've seen plenty of them with well over 100,000km of NORMAL driving and in as new condition.

Once they have had the improved kit replaced, which was generally done in warranty period, then they really don't have any issue. Effectively you have two clutches and minus the user error, so you could assume they would last almost double the life of a normal clutch. With that approach, 200-300k km would be a good estimate. However remember, a tuned car will eat some of that up as will a fault in the system(ie. mechatronics).

...and also too many spirited drives will reduce the life. So basically how you use your car will determinate how long it will last.

Volkswagen have been heard quoting 300,000km. Obviously driving style dramatically effects clutch life. Just don't worry about it as they are designed to outlast the engine (when they don't shudder ofcourse).

What's this improved kit? I keep checking etka for new clutch part numbers but don't really see any. What year should I check?

I would have thought that creeping along in city traffic would be worse since the amount of slip per shift shouldn't be much while one of the clutches would be likely to be slipping continually whilst creeping.

Agreed. For many sitting in stop start traffic would be NORMAL driving. I don't buy the "user is causing the issue" argument put forward above.

Bummer, and I always thought that the city driving was rated as a driving under severe driving conditions.

Similar to, driving abruptly in the traffic (confused by many as a spirited driving), unnecessary frequent acceleration in the city traffic, then waiting for the traffic light and launching the car to win the next traffic light grand prix.

Had the clutches on my Polo GTI replaced at 18000km and again at 36000km.

There is a suggestion that the first change still used the old material, even though the time frame suggests the new material was available.
