  • Manual farts!

We all know and love the "farts" the DSG does on up change. Has anyone been able to do it in a manual? Is it possible? I think I did one today pulling into traffic but not sure.

The "fart" is caused by the momentary spark cut (and subsequent expulsion of unburnt fuel) controlled by the ECU, as the DSG engages and disengages the clutches, so as to not put additional pressure on the clutches.

That behaviour isn't possible in a manual.

The only way to replicate a similar noise in a manual is to give the car a bootfull around a low speed corner in either 1st or 2nd gear and trigger the traction control. This will cut fuel/ignition momentarily and makes a similar sound.

Spot-on. It's a side-effect of the ECU mapping the DSG cars have, to preserve the transmission.

You can do it by full throttle 6800 rpm shifts (as the car hits the rev limiter, it cuts spark). With practice, it makes shifting as fast as a DSG.

Probably draw a fair bit of attention around the street though
