Hi all,
New to the forum and hoping to get some advise/help.
Have a 2009 MK6 GTI with 48000km. Just experienced low coolant, went to get it checked out and was advised that it needs a new water pump and timing belt. I told the guy that the same thing happened 2 years ago when the car was 1 year old and that I wouldn't expect a 2 year old part to fail so soon. They want to charge me $1500 for the work which I'm reluctant to do of course. The other kicker is that it was serviced last October and these were checked and passed.
Why would the timing belt need changing when the water pump is failing? Would I be advised to ignore the timing belt work?
Has anyone had this come up so soon in the car's life? What sort of pushback can I used with VW?
