Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. • Bend Lighting - slow re-centre?

    Hi Guys,

Just a quick one, i have bend lighting enabled on my Golf R and it does the lighting sweep (up down/left right) when starting the car.

When going around corners the lights 'bend' into the corner (right hand bend) but when comming out i notice the RHS light takes a good 10-15seconds to re-centre again. Its only noticable on a straight after a right hand bend, i can see the 'brightest' point of the light shift back towards centre again.

I havnt noticed it on the LHS light, seems to be like the RHS is just slowwer to centre again.

Anyone else notice anything similar? Its not really an issue for me but if its not meant to be doing that then i would like to fix it.

    Cheers
    George

I've noticed that a few times. Also when pulling up at a red light, I can see the right light come back to centre. Never bothered me though

I think the speed is 40kph when the headlights narrow their beam to focus moreso directly infront of you. Under 40kph, the beam is a wider pattern to better illuminate the gutter/pedestrians etc.

As you speed up from a standstill you will see the beam narrow as you pass 40kph, and widen again as you slow down.

Is this what you are experiencing?

        Lucas,

Its more of a 'lazy/slow' headlight. It seems like the beam turns into corners fine, its just after a bend on a straight or as elephino said at a red light does the RHS light come back to centre.... Its like its delayed.

When you look at the centre of the illuminated area infront of you (after a corner), you will actually see the RHS light move the 15 degress back to centre, whereas the LHS light will be already centred.

I've never really noticed the beam widen with speed or get narrower, i might keep an eye out for that. I know that you need to be going over a certain speed for the lights bend into corners.

I can try and get a video to help explain it.

So i finally got around to capturing a half decent video of the issue im having.

13secs you can see the RHS light recentre after stopping, after a left hand turn (i did turn right previous to the left hand turn in the video) this means that when turning left the LHS light moves 15degress to the left (into the corner) but the RHS light is stuck 15degress to the right (from the previous corner). When straightening up after the left hand turn, the LHS light recentre's fine, but as you can see at 13seconds into the video, the RHS re-centres when stopped.

Basically my headlights are googly lol

Scan it using vcds. Any electronic error codes get logged by the vagcom system.

definately looks like a lazy right eye!!!
shouldn't take that long to return to centre.

i have "bending/dynamic" xenons and i find it very handy.
