    Mk 6 GTI won't start

Left it for an hour in the car park middle of this afternoon, dry no rain and mild temperature. Went to start and I get just a relay sound. Centre display shows an ESP error. Electric windows work intermittently and requires ignition to go off then back on. On releasing ignition screen tells me to put DSG into P/N but it's locked and requires two dabs of the brake pedal to release it.

I've arranged for a tow tomorrow morning but can anyone shed any light on what's gone wrong?

ESP fault on my MDI came up when my battery was going flat. Not sure about the DSG as I'm manual.

Are you still on the original battery? If so it sounds like you might need a new one

Is it worth a jump start?

I guess so but I would check what it says about jump starting in the manual first.

Check the voltage with a multimeter? If it is down.

Connect another car up with jumps leads and leave it idling a while, before you try starting. It'll put some juice in the dead battery before you try cranking it.

Just got back no go. Multimeter read just under 12v. Connected to donor car at idle to fast idle then tried but same symptoms. Errors that show are airbag and brakes. Lights still have juice.

Looks like a tow then unless you can find someone with VCDS to scan it.

Had all these same issues when my battery went caput in the R. Threw heaps of codes. And even showed voltage at the battery. Get a jump and leave it chargibg from the other car for a little while, thats what mine needed then it started and worked fine.

I'm wondering if maybe I should cancel the tow and get a mobile battery service to come and replace the battery.

But if the headlights work then it can't be the battery right.
