  • Just had my 30K service, quoted was $440 but i had the aircon serviced for 88 bucks so it came in at about $540ish.,. A couple of things, firstly it seems my front tyres were worn on the inner rim. this is concerning given I am a pretty soft driver. Could be an alignment issue could be pressure but given the back tyres and the rest of the front were still at 60 -70 % I should have doubled the wear.

A nice touch though was I found the doors were not aligned and sitting flush so asked them to address and they are now tight as a drum.

Other than that not a niggle.

I bought a litre of the VW window wash concentrate.. anyone tell me what the mix ratios are it isn't on the bottle..??

    • Assuming you bought the same VW wash I did, the label on the bottle peels back from the bottom right corner revealing ratios. Took me a little while to figure out...

        • So here in chilly Canberra I went for -16 which covers for wind chill when moving which is 1 part wash to 2 parts water (333ml wash to 666ml water) but in Sydney I'd go for the recommended 'Sunny' ratio which is 1 part wash to 4 parts water (200ml wash to 800ml water). I dilute with distilled water to avoid mineralisation blocking spray jets.

Damn that's a lot... Given there is 6 liters of fluid you only get 2 fills from a bottle at 15 dollars a bottle I reckon it is back to the SCA brand

            • Unlike the all-season concentrate (G 052 164 A2/M2), the summer concentrate (G 052 184 A2) has a dilution ratio of 1:10, which makes 11 litres from its 1 litre bottle. So if you don't drive in areas with temperatures below freezing* then the summer concentrate might be better value.

*Mind you, you'd want to be absolutely certain of this, as you don't want frozen water and/or crystal formations adversely affecting functionality of the windscreen and headlight (if equipped) washing systems.

              • I was told today that the authorised dealers do a suspension tighten at 30k, but not sure if the few specialists do that?

Also, was told that brake fluid is every 3 yrs, yet the dealer says 2 yrs. Who is correct?

Every 2 years. It's in the service book. If it's the first brake fluid change then I'd be taking into account the actual build date rather than delivery date. The world wont stop turning if you go overtime but sooner is better than later.

Not sure about VW but when I was at BMW people would come in wanting their doors pulled in not realising it was an aerodynamic feature.

You'll go through two sets of fronts to 1 rears as the drive bias is still to the front but inner edge wear is probably an alignment issue. Did the right wear a bit more than the left? They really should be x-rotating the tyres every 10,000km-15,000km.

                    • The rear edge of every panel should sit slightly proud. This is to reduce wind noise mostly.

                        • naa the problem with the door was poor fitment, the drivers side was flush and neat and the passenger side was jutting out, they just fixed it up. I only saw one of the tyres and not sure which one, will climb under on the weekend and have a look. If it is even then I might go get a wheel alignment

In Europe, Golf models from 2008 onwards have the brake fluid initially drained and replaced in the 3rd year, and then every 2 years after that.

Assuming the factory isn't filling Australian delivered vehicles with a different fluid (which IMO is unlikely), you could technically wait until the 3rd year for your first brake fluid change.

But as it is, the Australian service schedule says to replace every 2 years, which in the scheme of things, is no big deal, really.
