  • Black or Silver wheels for Golf R - United Grey

    Howdy fellow Golfers

I am looking at replacing my current R (silver with silver wheels) with a newby. I am told it can take around 6 - 12 months to have one delivered from the factory. So I thought I would start now and go on the good old waiting list.

I am just seeking some opinions on type of wheels to order. What would look cooler, but maintain the R's subtle looks and not attract attention from the authorities? My choice of colour is the United Grey colour, as I have not seen many of this colour on the road - not many in my silver too, I might add.

What colour wheels to order - The 19" Silver wheels or the 19" Black wheels from the factory?

That is the biggest thing I have to worry about on this Friday LOL

    Cheers

      Looks like Tarmac's car

Why bother waiting 6 months for heavy oem wheels, when you can get a set off tirerack in a week and their performance wheels are lighter anyway.

have you considered buying non-OEM rims?

gives you a much greater choice and then you could sell the OEMs, or put them in storage and sell the non-OEMs separately when you plan to get rid of the car.

I have a United Grey Golf R and i chose the silver wheels as in my opinion, they look much more classy and less "boy racer" than the black wheels. Also the black wheels look alright, but after a days worth of driving, the brake dust makes them look brown anyway.

Each to their own of course though...

Agree with Lucas-R. I have united grey and had the chance to see both silver & black on two UG Rs. When clean (and that is a chore for both colors) the sliver just "pops".
Initially I was thinking black rims but Glad I went silver. Having seen so many black rimmed Rs since, I think they only look better on a Black R.
The black seems to dull-down the car's look otherwise IMO

Invest in some aftermarket brake pads and the wheels stay cleaner for a lot longer. Remsa pads from GSL Rallysport.

Yeh, have considered replacing pads, but to get less dust means harder pads and you loose that lovely smooth brake progression. Now if it WAS a rally car...

Actually the brake feel with the Remsa pads is much better than the stock ones. It was instantly noticeable.

GSL Rallysport (sponsor on here) and they were just under $250 for the full set. Heaps less dust too.

                              Much classier
And if u scratch the rims on a gutter far less noticeable.
