Buying used golf r dsg

Hi,

Please direct if thread already exists.

Have been looking to buy new r but can't find one with options i want and don't like idea of waiting months and months so thought of getting used dsg r. Anything specific to look/watchout of? Have never owned vw so wouldn't have a clue,
Also has there been any recall fixes for the the r?

You should be right, issues with the R appear to be limited to interior creaks which are comon to VW. The DSG can have some issues however they should be covered under warranty

Just make sure it's been to a dealership since it was bought. Then ask said dealership what they thought of it.
Having said that, you're not exactly buying a 1993 Landrover Discovery with no service history that smells of electrical smoke...

Funny you should mention a Disco, I have one a D3, not too shabby though.
Yes, was thinking of having the R in for a pre-purchase inspection. Seller is private and it's a 2010 model so must be from the first batch to arrive in Oz.

I've always wondered if dealerships actually do this. I would have thought dealerships would be reluctant to comment on a customer's car to someone else, even more so with the growing privacy culture.

I don't have an R however I am getting these interior creaks you speak of.. Mine seems to be coming from the passenger side.. Still trying to figure out what's causing it..

these creaks come and go, some days they're hardly noticeable, others, they're downright annoying. thing is, these cars are built to be really quiet (compared to the jap cars i've driven previously) so any noise in the cabin will be more apparent. as long as the noises dont overpower your stereo, you should be fine. afterall, with a wicked engine and exhaust note from the R, you'll be having too much fun to bother about little creaks here and there.

DSG wise, its running a 6 spd wet clutch transmission which is supposedly more reliable than the 7 spd dry clutch. they're both good just that the 6 spd has been around longer and tweaked just that little bit more. shouldnt have any issues.

Why? I wouldn't trust a bunch of car dealer "mechanics" (talking the service advisers etc) to give an opinion on anything that didn't involve them asking for cash.

They are not there to help. They are there to fleece the customer.

I did ask a more seasoned R owner about this exact same problem. Maybe he'll chime in later.

And the gist of it is this:
A. Need to ascertain if the owner is the original owner. Or is the car an ex demo. Or worse, rental etc. This will affect the value of the car especially when you are selling it later on.
B. ascertain if the car had been written off or in an accident report before. (this does not cover cases where the accident was not reported so it's not fool proof)

These will add to the cost of the car as you'll need to pay for the reports.

The other issue that I also hadn't considered is if there is an outstanding loan on the car and how that loan is settled. I gather it could be a bit messy in the transfer of ownership. Do you pay the financing company or the seller? What if the selling price is below the loan settlement amount etc.

I have an MY12 GTI and I have these interior creaks (passenger side too). I never noticed it at first because I always have the stereo on. With the stereo off, the creaks are damned loud. Pretty sad effort from VW, if you ask me.

We all love the look of 18" and 19" wheels with the low profile Tyres, but with the terrible roads around Melbourne they really stress the poor old chassis out.
My E350 Merc has more creaks and rattles than my little 77tsi. I put this down simply to the magnificently smooth ride the hi profile tyres on the golf give me.
This months Top Gear mag also has a cou
ple of articles on how low profile tyres destroy the ride of most cars.

and here I am thinking I upgrade (or is that downgrade) from 18's to 19s if I ever close the deal with the R

back to my original post, no-one has mentioned any recall on the R yet so is it safe to say there aren't any...yet?

what is the price of the used R? Given that with discounts at this time of year (and present economic state), a new one may not be vastly more (some private sales do ask unrealsitic prices), plus you have the added comfort of knowing that is wasn't flogged by a young punk owner and the new car smell!
