Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • DRL standard Halogens not working

    Hi all,

Sorry if this has been posted before I did a search for "DRL not working" but got 17 pages of nothing.

    Here's the story.

I have a GTI with halogens, my lights are set for auto and in the past say up until a week ago the "DRL" / parkers have always been on. Thursday this week it was overcast and yet there was no lights on at all not even the "DRL" / "parkers" I have in the MDF under lights got the DRL option ticked. I've unticked and retick it to see if it turns it back on.

Anyone had this problem in the past and if so how do you fix it. I like to have the lights on all the time.

    Thanks

You do have the switch on "Auto"? and have you checked the procedure in the manual?

How old is your GTI? At one point the controller was updated to allow the DRLs to be switched on and off direct from the MFD (mine, as an MY10, requires a different procedure). It sounds like you have a later model, so perhaps trying the original technique (should be documented in your owner's manual too) will do the trick.

MY11. I have check the manual and even tried their push and hold indicator right while high beam flash. My coming home lights are also off.

As said in first post everything is set to auto

Fuse blown or dodgy wire/connector perhaps? Otherwise, just take it to VW to get looked at under warranty.

So I have today spent just on an hour at a VW dealership today and it looks like there maybe an electrical issue. The workshop activated the DRLs but couldn't get them to work. I also don't have any parkers either....
