I was on the M5 this afternoon heading north from Picton way then around Campbelltown a little dropping things off (any excuse at the moment ) so maybe

As for the car, I'm loving it so far, ordered the RNS510 last night, so fun will come with that one in the very near future, but as it is it's quite awesome

If it has an engine or heartbeat it's going to cost you.

Saw your post in the other thread. I've got a VCDS Hex + Can cable and have installed a microphone into the back of our RNS 510. Give us a shout if you need a hand.

I have the VCDS cable but haven't yet looked into what is involved in installation and coding. That's the plan for the next few days before the unit gets here

The short answer is no. The longer answer is not yet. Will at try to keep it stock for at least the first few days weeks months.. um... little while until I get my head around it in it's stock form.

22KM when I picked it up... a shade over 300KM now

And who says it's not a family car ??

                  I beg to differ!

Hey Mate, those child seats look better than Recaros! Definitely better than the OEM seats in the front.
As always, the kids get the best of everything.
Congrats on the new wheels. Looks fantastic. Jealous as hell.

The empty one in the pic is a Safe N Sound Maxi Rider we have had for a few years and is for my older boy (6 years).

The other one is a new Maxi Cosi Complete Air, which is for my daughter (3 years) which I picked up today so we are now 100% compliant with the current seating laws (damn growing children ). On the upside this new seat can be used with it's full harness until she grows out of needing a seat AND it's the safer option anyway

I really should add some major Kudos for Gerald Slaven Volkswagen in Canberra who supplied the Cab.

I have been following the launch since it was announced in May and had been keeping my ear close to the ground trying to get my hands on one of the launch vehicles in the spec I wanted. Not only have they been great in keeping me informed when information came to light, they were pretty much the only dealer who was willing to let go of a launch car! On top of that the overall deal was fantastic, especially for a brand new release on launch week.

Add to that the Kombi through a warning message up on the MFD for no apparent reason when we got to Canberra to pick it up, the service department (who had never seen me or my Van before) got it up on a hoist, checked the issue and had me back out and running almost straight away (with no charge I might add). I was impressed with the tech that looked at the vehicle too, he gave the impression he actually knew what he was talking about, something which is sadly sometimes lacking.

From my experience I can't recommend them highly enough.

                        And it continues...

The RNS-510 I ordered out of the UK turned up this morning, so I broke out the tools and had a bash. The hardest part was removing the fascia, essentially it takes as long as it takes for your brain to just accept you need to pull a little harder

                        Fascia off:

Then it's four screws and the RCD-310 pops out (I now have TWO of these units in boxes pulled out of new cars ). From there it's a matter of unplugging the main plug pack and the antenna, placing the GPS antenna and plugging the other two cables back in. Done.

And then clipping the fascia back into place (after it's been for a good test drive to make sure it's working OK and doesn't need to come back out

The coding was pretty straight forward, although I did end up enlisting the help of Camden GTI... mind you the issue I needed help with turned out to be sheer blindness on my part, but then I suppose this is why they are the experts and I am not.

Everything seems to be working beautifully, MFD shows direction, RNS show AC settings and all that. Phone is working. It's also worth noting that I'm rocking an iPhone 4S which hasn't skipped a beat, even the bluetooth streaming is working without issues.

If it has an engine or heartbeat it's going to cost you.

I don't suppose you searched for installation guides on your forums here?

I was in a courtesy Golf yesterday, and as soon as I pulled out I went to switch to the Map view but saw it was the RCD310 - funny how used you get to having maps one button press away.

Now you just need an anti-glare screen protector for your RNS from clarivue.com - gives the screen a nice glassy appearance as well.

I remember taking a peek at the Cabriolet when I was picking up my GTI, it had only just come in and was parked next to the Eos, the Cabriolet was rather attractive

Great tip Ryan, I just went to clarivue.com and ordered a protector for my RCD, and if anyone else is interested - they are currently available at a discounted sale price with an extra 25% ThanksGiving special discount till Nov 28th

I hate screen protectors... well to be fair, I just had badly installed screen protectors with bubbles and dust under them. For the price it seems reasonable so I ordered one of the anti glare ones and will give it a bash.

Otherwise, Boris Picnic day was today so I took a couple of new photos:
