Gold Caost VW are definately a rip-off. I paid $239 for 15k service at Wippels VW in Toowoomb, (i lived there at the time), there is no reason why the price should be so much highr on the Gold Coast. I actually bought the car in brisbane after some pretty rude treatment from the sales manager at VW in southport. He had no idea about the car I was interested in and was trying too sell it for way more than it was worth, so i jumped in my car, drove about 50km north and bought my 118tsi at Highway Auto for $32 000 driveaway (8km on the clock....which was my test drive). On the Gold Coast they tried to charge me over $33000 for trendline model.

I tried to save money on my 105k service by buying the OEM parts from the UK - then when one of the parts was faulty and damaged a heap of others I'd ended up paying twice what I would've if I'd just not tried to cut corners to begin with.

I've learnt my lesson and that was going with OEM at a VW garage.

Good lesson. Thanks for sharing. I've been tempted to do the same, now will definitely reconsider

          Buy a MK1. They don't need servicing.

Yeah it sounded good at the time getting a $1100 service for about $600 - but in the end I paid well over $2000 to get the car right again. If I'd paid the $1100 from VWA then I would've had warranty from the start, there's no warranty on non-aus parts.

Can't say I've ever been happy with the service at Gold Coast VW. The initial quote they gave me for my 15k service was $450ish after some haggling not to mention waiting a month for a booking. My 25k service is coming up and I'm on the hunt for a VW specialist.

Well if they've got a month worth of servicing booked then no wonder they're overcharging
Some say he was the Stig... all we know is that he drives a VW Transporter.

Have you tried VA Garage at Southport?

I loved mine but it was the most troublesome car I've ever owned. It was like VW released it onto the market before it had been fully developed and expected the customers to find, experience and solve all the design and build faults. It was such a difference to the ownership experiences I had with the Jap cars I owned before and after. It really took many years for VW in Australia to recover from that negative reputation.
