I think its a shame they are using the old R engine. I would have much preferred them to be a little more innovative and used the newer EA888 engine and slapped the k04 on that.

Looks like it also gains the R's side skirts?

Front and rear bumpers are the same as the GTI though I think.

Correct. Thus far any high performance VAG model cannot use the MK6 GTI motor. They all use the MKV GTI motor which is upgraded with stronger internals and a K04 turbo. This is the case for the MKV GTI 30th Edition, Pirelli Edition, the Audi S3, the VW Scirocco R, the Golf R, and now the Golf GTI 35th Edition. (Same goes for Seat and Skoda, but i can't be bothered looking up all the variants)

It is very likely that as per any of the other cars with this motor, you will just be able to apply the existing ECU applicable to the Golf R and S3. I guess those companies will probably wait until this thing is actually released to ensure it still has the same intake, cooling, and a whole host of other things before they give guarantee outputs etc.

Does that mean the R and the GTI 35 have timing belts, as opposed to the chain in the VI GTI?

Different finish on the front bumper but the shape is the same I think.

I want that side skirt for my GTI. Gives the body a nicer shape (like the R).

Nah... what gives the body a nicer shape is the fact that the body is a nicer shape (*cough*3dr*cough*)

GTI Ed 35 on iTuness App Store

For the benefit of those with an iPad and have not seen this.

Now you can go for a race during lunch breaks w/o have to go on the road. Or if you are commuting by train or bus, you can still have a "GTI" day. Search for 'Volkswagen' on Apple App Store. I installed it on my iPad. That is the only Golf I allow my teenage P-plate daughter to drive for now.

For anyone interested I spoke to a VW dealer in Sydney a couple days ago who was scant on details of the Gti 35 (he said they still don't have the official Australian specs) but said it will be limited to two per dealer (200 in total). A bit confusing given that VW have already said it's not a limited edition model, but perhaps that's VW Australia's decision to test the waters first.

I also asked about price and again he didn't have anything to add. I guess it's not too hard to work out where it'll have to sit ie. in between gti and r

Has anyone spoken to a dealer recently and heard anything new?
