Boost Gauge in GOLF R- PT2

Hey everyone, quick update on my car and additions. And also finish with a question or 2 about the R suited gauges.

So far I just have the window tints, and Laikin Plate holders. But this was never going to be enough.

So the bug is starting to bite. I ordered the OSIR footrest (finally). I think I might get an airtake next month as well (maybe either APR or the GRUPPE M now that its $730AUD).

My Sis and GF might be combinging powers with my mum and getting me a tune!! LOL I still have NO idea who I should go with. That is another thread (or forum!) in itself.

I also have ordered some OSIR glue, and right hand side VENT POD holder from OSIR.

Question: What gauge fits the best (looks wise)?

I am thinking a gauge I have actually had before, the Autometer COBALT series that shows up to 30PSI and 30 Vacuum.

I cant seem to find one that has a blue needle and black face/white numbers like the R..

Question 2: Is it better to get an electronic or Mechanical? The electronic one from Autometer apparently doesnt need no control unit or anything.. So does that mean you dont need to tap a boost line?

Lastly, one more mod I am definitely going to do is the ECS Hatch pop struts. One touch of the boot release and presto the boot flies up. Pretty awesome!

Both types of gauge must be hooked into boost pressure. A Mechanical one has a hose all the way up to the gauge. An electrical one has a sensor down in the engine bay ( still hooked into boost ) and a wire up to the gauge. Afraid you need a tap or a way to get into boost either way. The only true "no tap" option is a Scangauge or similar that plugs into the OBD port and uses the stock sensors in the car.

Have you also considered the ones made by ECS tuning. Their air vent option looks more OEM than the OSIR one:

As for boost guages with a blue needle and black background.......hmmm harder to find one than i thought. This one has a blue needle (only one i could find with a blue needle) but it doesnt look great. There are much nicer looking options (such as Autometer / DEFI etc) but the screen/light colours don't match.

I just emailed AWE and asked if they make a RHD version of this guage. This is the nicest one i have been able to find and retains the proper OEM look. Yanks being yanks, they probably haven't considered a RHD version of the Golf..........like oh my god...like...like a RHD Golf !!!

Yes that is the OSIR vent I am talking about. it's good in that fits most types of gauges.

Do you think that I need to buy a boost tap, or would it come with the gauge?

And I really like the idea of the ecs one and I was strongly considering it. But the main function I want it for is the boost pressure display, but that integrated in the vent display from ecs i don't think is very pretty. It does use actual original VW vents for it though which is cool.

regarding the hatch pop mod, I've done it on my Golf R and yeah its pretty awesome I have to say. I DIY'ed it and it took about 45 mins
