Well you could wait a week if you can find an in stock unit with the mods you want and a pricer you are willing to pay..

But everyone here will tell you it is worth the wait even though it long.. hell there is one brother here who waited 6 months for his GTI , wrote it off ( not his fault ), and has signed up for another 6 month wait..

    Anyway you be the judge

Yeah I can appreciate that & thanks again for your input mate.

Just about to head to the VW dealer in Five Dock now to test the R & GTI. I'm also going to be re-testing the SSV Redline, see if I'm still more bogan that I'd like to admit...

Gotta watch those five dock dudes, they sort of led me down a path when I did the back to back.. I would have bought from them if the price didn't change at the last minute.. anyway the guys at Denlo Parra came to the party.. the trick is to know exactly what options you want and what you want to pay to drive away and tell them up front.

It's funny but I knew if I was going to get one built due to options, I would have a long wait. Apart from all around me thinking I'm nuts, I think it kinda makes it special. It's a journey of excitement, anticipation and nerve. The wait is made easier by being a member here. So many have experienced the wait and they know how all who are still waiting feel. It's like earning your stripes! But again you could always buy a stocky as I'm sure others here have already suggested.

We will never forget this purchase will we. Even when we are old and grey with a blanket over our knees sitting in our favourite chair we will still have a cheeky smile on our faces thinking back about our cars!

If VW were really smart they would copy what FPV did, and send people waiting pictures of their actual car on the production line. I have two from my old GT, and although terrible and grainy ( could be any car too ) it kept me happy during the wait.

Sorry but I could not disagree any more than that. To think we would recommend someone to go there is just bad - maybe - evil of me not to say anything.

Glad you had a good experience, but the "big steal" is being kind.

I almost bought a car from Barloworld Mascot. To cut a long story short...

Salesman - Sorry mate, I accidentally priced a 3 door for you. That'll be another $1500.
                        Me - No thanks.
Salesman - It was an accident, I promise. If I can do the same price for the 5 door, will you do it?
Me - I'd need to think about it.
Salesman - My manager agreed to match the original price, blah, blah, blah

                          I own a Series 2 SSV Redline.

Stupid fast. So fast that it's almost impossible to go past 25% throttle and not get arrested. It's big, heavy, expensive but fun! I've only driven RWD or FWD (not AWD) but RWD is great. Oversteer (if you're into that kinda thing) is easily accessed and easily controlled. Im not talking about drifting stupidly, just little bits of slip for fun Tires are about $350 a corner though, so

I've tested a current gen Octavia RS and sat in current gen R and the quality and feel of the materials FAR eclipses the Holden. But I simply think I'd have less fun driving one.

There was a time when buying the Holden SS would have been seen as classless and boring but today it's almost bucking the trend. I've seen ONE of the same model as mine on the road since I got mine in Oct last year. The R looks stunning and if I am able I'll 90% get one for the next car in a few years

PS the SS uses about 7L/100km on the freeway and depending how I drive anywhere from 15-22L/100km in stop start morning and afternoon traffic around town.

You chose the Golf already, which is a very nice choice, but perhaps others will find the above useful

Personally I want to win Lotto so I can have the Golf for weekdays and the SS for when I want to be a little bit sillier than usual

No doubt! It's pretty insane usage but it also gets you a different style of performance. I'm terrifically impressed with the Golf R but the type of performance available from one is different to a V8. I'm not saying the V8 is *better* just different

Sounds like a beast, those big cars go like stink but are a different animal to the turbo. It would be silly to say they are better or worse just different. However as said earlier the running costs are high even if you behave, at least with the Golf it is a sleeper in all senses of the word. The big smack is the depreciation..
