  • pages 7 to 9 of service schedule booklet - what do they mean?

With my car due for its first scheduled service next week I checked the service schedule booklet again and to my understanding of pages 7 - 9 it says that the vehicle requires the 'oil change' schedule of work performed every 12 months/15000km and the 'inspection service' schedule of work every 2 years or 30,000 km plus a few other time/distance items (brake fluid, plugs, etc)

My reading of the schedule would indicate just an oil change service is due first time round. The dealer wants to do perform the inspection service (more money for them) and an email to VWA has elicited an ambiguous response.

How do other people interpret the service schedule, ie what work is required at the first 12 months/15,000 km?

    It's exactly what it says...

    12 month/15,000km, 36 month/45,000km, 60 month/75,000km etc are "Oil Change Services"
24 month/30,000km, 48 month/60,000km, 72 month/90,000km etc are "Inspection" services where they actually change and replace things.

Having said that - depending on the type of Golf you have, and your driving style/routes/habbits, you'd may want them checking the car over during the oil change services anyway - to replace things like brake pads or any other wearing parts which may need replacing.

I called the VWA customer service 1800 number today and was told that:

      1) The service schedule that came with the car doesn't apply to vehicles sold in Australia
      2) VWA has a service schedule that the dealers use.
      3) The Australian specific schedule essentially has the inspection service work performed every 12 months/15,000 km rather than every 24 months / 30000 km as indicated in the schedule supplied with the car.
      4) They get frequent queries about the discrepancy between the schedule deliverd with the car and the one the dealers work to

I asked for a copy of the Australian service schedule which they emailed to me within the hour (here's the link).

So is it over servicing to look after the dealership network or prudent maintenance to look after the vehicle in the longer term? They are not the only manufacturer to run a more maintenance intensive schedule for australian sold vehicles (eg Mazdas 10000 km's and 6 months vs 15000 km's and 12 months for the same models sold overseas).

        Yeah - not sure.

We'll wait until you get the link to have a read before this turns into another servicing thread.
I don't have the Service Schedule on hand, but I thought that it was already "Australianised" - cause I thought it also discussed warranty and other things....

Every 15,000klm-interval service is an Inspection Service (at 1.5hrs labour).

The schedule in the Service book is very blase' as it covers pretty much every country in a very generalised fashion.

As mentioned, the dealership uses a VW Australia-supplied service checklist, which you'll recieve a filled-out copy of, with your invoice.
