Golf R - The Wait Made Me Cancel My Order

Well it hasn't, but hanging about on the forums and looking at other VW models led me to think that this might be a good topic for discussion. I'm interested to know if the wait for your Golf R has nearly exceeded your desire for the car, or in fact it actually has/did and you opted for something else?

I've only been waiting less than a month, and I grabbed a new Tig off the lot for the Mrs, so at least I have a new toy to play with (when she isn't driving it, of course)

But, I've got to say that with the new Touareg on its way, the Passat CC catching my attention (quick, comfortable, loads of gadgets!!! me likes gadgets) I've been tempted more than once to 'change my mind' and order something else.

I'm almost the same. Three months to go for the Golf. Was wondering if we're actually allowed to change orders without penalty.

I ordered a R in Feb 2009 .... did not get my order when the were released (really bad dealer that messed up bigtime) and spent my $65K on a Multivan instead. Planning on getting a Cayman S this year sometime as my next toy ....

I seriously considered buying something else while waiting for the R, mainly due to the fact i was car less for a large majority of the almost 6 month wait. Was very close to buying a used BMW 135i or new 125i.

I been waiting almost 4 months and still have another 4 to go.. I keep getting told it is worth it

I ordered mine in June and took delivery in December.
Had to drive a Camry for last 3 months after I sold the MkV golf early.
That really almost killed me - especially the taunting.
Looked at the 135i, S3 and a second hand BoxsterS - R is so much better value.
I've had it for
a month now - still smiling every time I get out of the car.
The exhaust"pop", acceleration in S-mode with ACC and DSG ,and AWD will make you forget the wait - I promise.
Thought about the Clio Sport and Ford RS but you cannot compare the build quality or materials.
The R - rocks big time

Anything else, I will always be reminded that I went for the second choice.

I just got a call from the dealer telling me that the delivery is pushed back again!! I ordered in the start of September and now they're telling me that the ETA is going to be August as production will be in June. I'm now deciding whether to cancel the order as additional 6 months on top of the 3 months I've already waited is too much for me to handle waiting for a new car....

This is insane pure & simple, I think Ferrari is the only other manufacture that has these kinds of waiting periods, but it's a different ball game compared to a hatchback...

Absolutely, talk about testing a buyer's patience. In his shoes, I would be hitting the abort button I think.
VWA ought to sort out this fulfillment mess.
