A few comments here
V8 Supercars have only had sequential boxes for a few years, but the gearbox they've been using since the start of the category has had a sequential kit option available for many years.
F1 has only had a useable sequential/automated gearbox since 1989 (Ferrari), though it had been tried earlier.
My preference was for a manual. I know DSG is faster and I probably would have gone with it if I did track days. It also saved me some money by not buying the DSG and I would have had to compromise (more) on other options otherwise.
Motor test their cars with 2 people and half a tank of fuel (approx.), so that will affect the performance times.
Oh and the dual-clutch in the M3 is awesome! Do BMW driver training if you want a go on track.
