Water held in doors because of bottom seals?

So far as I can recall most of my VW's have exhibited this behaviour. Several Falcons and Commodores I drove for work did too.

The water would still drain when the door was shut, it just comes out faster when the door is opened.

Sometimes the angle the car is parked on had and impact.

It's not something that would particularly bother me, unless of course the water entered the cabin.

What he said, only water issue I've noticed is that you can't open the window even a mm without water coming in. That's a crappy design. The Audi's seem to have the same problem. Thank christ for a pop up sunroof to get your fix of fresh air!

Yeah, I noticed that issue too, but I didn't want to whinge about that.

And contrary to what people may believe, I am actually really enjoying driving the car. I am just so thoroughly disappointed by the response of Volkswagen, and after all of the issues I had with my first Golf (which I loved driving, it just had too many things which were faulty, or broke or just crappy quality), I really hoped and expected more after hearing from the service guys that the Mk5 was made in South Africa and the Mk6 was made in Germany and would be much better.

I haven't had this issue either, but the angle of the car in the videos is something that I've noticed. Maybe if it was parked on flat ground it'd make a difference or something?
I don't know... as I said, I haven't had this issue.

It may seem like a lot of humdrum to you, but $32,000 is a lot of money to me, and for that much money, I (and everyone else experiencing this issue) am entitled to have a reasonable expectation of a brand new car not leaking after rain.

And as for being childish, it is a matter of perspective. I have a legitimate issue which is being ignored by one of the largest car manufacturers in the world. There is absolutely no way I would have purchased this car had I been made aware of the issue, and I am sure other people would feel the same also. If I can't come to a fair resolution with Volkswagen on the issue, I assure you that I will be doing as much as I can to make as much noise as possible about this issue. I won't be going to just News Corp papers, but to Australias Best Cars (I am sure Hyundais don't do this), Car Sales (this is something people need to consider when buying a car) and Fairfax also.

Is this your first car? Are you a lawyer? I just paid over $65,000 for my R and am not concerned with a little water being captured between 2 seals when it rains. A Hyundai may not retain water but it also isn't as quiet as the Golf at freeway speeds. The water isn't entering the cabin so its not a fault hence VW isn't concerned. The motoring press and DoFT will either tell you its a non issue or humour you by saying they'll look into it then have a good laugh when you leave. If you still own the car in 5/10/15 years time and the door sills rust out due to retained water you may have a claim but good luck proving it.

But I shouldn't have to. I have to sell this car once I am done with it (and after the response of Volkswagen, that will be sooner rather than later), and this issue will directly affect the amount of money I will see in resale.

I assure you that if I don't make the person aware of the issue (and VW refuse to fix the issue), that whoever buys it will be calling me after the first time it rains. Notifying the purchaser of any known issues is the ethical thing to do when selling anything, especially something as expensive as a car.

If you don't have ethics, then that is why we have the Department of Fair Trading.

Unfortunately like Vodafone, it seem Volkswagen will try to bully someone by not addressing the issue, and if the only way I can have it addressed it to make noise, then you will hear me from the roof tops!

Anyone that has done proper research on the car they are going to buy will have come to forums like this to find out if there are REAL problems with the car before making the decision to purchase. The person that buys your car will either a) already know about the water retention problem and be happy to pay you less money than market for a problem that doesn't affect the intended purpose of the car or b) not buy the car off you. If you intend trading the car on another then the dealer is going to take you to the cleaners once you tell them the car has problems.

If you guys want to see real water issues get a new jeep Cherokee. I must admit my MK5 doesn't do this, I watched the YouTube videos and must admit it appears to be a lot of water, I hope they,ve got some fish oil in those doors

Seriously though I tried to recreate this when I was washing it and it dribbled a little, similar to when you don't shake properly. No big deal, the most annoying thing is that you have to wipe the water off after you wash the car, so you don't get dribble marks.

I am also a dissatisfied Vodafone Customer (and yes I have joined the Class Action) because being locked in to a $100/m 2 year contract for a service which is not as advertised or of an acceptable reasonable standard should not be tolerated. And I can't sell my Vodafone contract.

I'm sorry you seem to be having issues with companies starting with V.

However as you state you have an "On-line" background and not an engineering one you're really putting yourself up on a plateau for full examination on your credentials. And your writing style seems to be confrontational rather than consultative.

Now to assist you I have a way forward that is reasonable and simple to complete. Why don't you have your car inspected by a motoring organisation. Companies like NRMA, RACQ etc do this for a fee and then you'll have some independant advise whether or not you and the many hundreds of thousands who have purchased similar vehicles as you areound the world have a problem or not.

If you are proved correct and VW is found o have designed a faulty car despite all of their technical prowess you might become a VW hero and be able to shout about yourself on-line!!!

Ok, I am not trying to put myself up on a plateau, and reading back I can see how some people may see me as a school boy not getting his way (I could/should go and change/delete what I said as reading back it I can see what you mean, but I have intentionally left it - flame away), but I was (and still am) upset about this issue, and in particular the fact that VW have said it is not an issue when I believe it clearly is. They did not try and open a dialogue on the issue, but simply said "go away".

I have also shown some of the journalists here and they have said it is definitely not normal, and I will be contacting the NRMA about the issue to get an independent opinion for when the Dept. of Fair Trading call.

Like whenVodafone said to their customers that there wasn't an issue when for some people it isn't, and for others it is. Vodafone have some 4+ million customers, and only 10,000 or so have signed up to the class action, but even this small % of their over all customer base have a fair and valid arguement. I believe I have a fair and valid arguement in relation to this issue also. And despite my employer, I know I have the ability to make more noise than most on this issue should it come down to that for me to be heard and have my issue properly addressed by Volkswagen.

Hey Dente, I know how you can fix this problem. Buy some liquid metal and plug up the drain holes and see what happens then. The dripping water is perfectly normal and is not doing any damage to the car.
