Fab_R if u dont mind me asking, how much did the wheels+tyre combo set you back? Yours looks like a quality wheel, im considering not ordering the 18" Detroits on the GTI and trading in the 17" Denvers for a better looking 18" wheel. If you traded your original wheels in, did you get a fair trade value? Thanks

i've seen a brand new set of Denvers + Potenza RE050 sold for $1280 in eBay (melbourne seller),
a set with 1 week old Denvers and almost brand new Michelin Pilot Sport 3 for $1500 (this was a special case),
there's currently a Melb seller of a set with 350kms travel only, $1100 and no bites since last month.
also have seen a couple of sets, used between 300-3000kms, sold between $850 (with a kerb mark)-$1100.
it all depends if there's someone wanting it so much or not.
and here are pictures showing Detroits / Denvers on the same car:
interesting, they look quite aggressive
and nice match to the R.
I think that Fab_R is running 225's on them though (rather than 235) so that there is less chance of that rubbing occuring. If you ran 235's on them with that offset, you'd certainly get rubbing!

I have a set of wheels on order, 18x8 offset +45, and I'll be using the Potenza RE050A 225 40 18 tyres.
Wider wheels with lower offset certainly look aggressive, but my main concern is the rubbing issue when the car is lowered w/ 1 finger gap and I prefer not to roll the guards.
People here and in other forums have said different things for Mk6, ie: rub and no rub. Or perhaps those who said no rub they have not cornered hard enough? :p
WhiteJames mentioned in his Mk5 18x8 +45 w/ 225 40 18 did rub.
I wonder if Mk6 fenders / guards are slighly wider than Mk5?

They're VMR 701 wheels. Specs are 19" x 8.5" PCD 5x112 ET 45.
The "optimal" tyre size for 8.5" rims are 235's, but they'll rub. Switching to the 225's means the sidewalls are leaning inwards towards the tread a bit, so they clear better.
The Oettinger rims made specifically for the MKV Golf were 18 or 19" x 8.5" and ET50. They never rubbed on my MKV GTI with 235/40R18 tyres - except if you hit a bump whilst cornering you'd nab that stupid bolt in the front guards! (You know the one which they've replaced with a "tab" in the 19" delivered R's).
