  • A white Golf GTI in a wedding in Penang, Malaysia (taken with my crappy HTC phone camera)

Car has CF Vinyl on bonnet, roof and rear hatch.

GTI does attract a lot of little dubbers!

Good to see a growing fan base of the Golf in M'sia! I just wonder how much the R will cost when launched there? I reckon it would be close to AUD$90k!

      • it will be expensive considering the higher import tax the M'sian govt impose on imported cars to protect its local industry, Proton, compared to Aust'n import duty it's nothing...

        but I think it's still cheaper in M'sia to own a car than in S'pore... Sin$70k for a 1.6ltr Corolla, that's nuts...

        • and I think most GTI in Malaysia comes with bixenon as STANDARD... (even Tiguans came with xenons & leather as standard)

while we in Australia must settle for normal halogens unless we forked a few extra grand to ask that option added in...

in the end of the day despite the slightly higher cost to buy a GTI in Malaysia, with most of the options thrown in, we're still kind of still getting a bit raw end of the deal in Australia with the lesser options thrown in....

IMO, we are not getting a raw deal in comparison to countries like SG or MY. Really; having worked and lived previously in that region for a decade, I can attest to that. Cars are still more affordable here.

That said, I like the "flexible" speed limit in Malaysia. None of those fascist campaign against speeding; instead it encourage people to drive carefully.

Now, if there is a country we should be envious of car-wise, it has to be the US. Need I say more.

            • singapore might be a lot more expensive due to the extreme road tax based on engine cc applied, plus congestion charge etc. like UK.

malaysia, on the other hand, is still reasonable, just because all the euros I see always seem to come standard with xenons and leather, both are options that can easily increase our Australian euro car RRP by about $5k (or 15,000RM these days), which makes the price difference between a euro sold in Malaysia vs in Australia seems smaller than it suggest when you compare options that was pre-included in the price.

              • Working out how cars are priced in various countries is not really the topic... lets just acknowledge that everywhere is different and get back to discussing the content of photos

Only took a few as the mosquitoes ate me alive (note to self, take aerogard next time!)

                  • Nice pics shakespear. I drove my GTI mk6 to Curtin on the first night to show a friend of mine and we couldn't stop looking at it. Later the security guard came around and tactfully told us to leave.

Will try that one but I could have a high end camera on a tripod setup by a pro with a timer and still fark it up! The CW Polo is just so much easier lol
