Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

    A few options

    1. You don't.. just get it serviced and don't mention it
    2. Get a hand help ECU upgrade like Bluefin and remove it before the service
    3. Or go get it put back to standard before the service and then go and get it put back on
    4. Get it serviced other than VW but recognized for warranty servicing

I find it interesting that folk want to "hide" a tune from service centres, it is your car and you are paying them to provide a service no more no less. If a Warranty conversation comes up then they have to prove the tune had any relationship to the issue..

To hide the tune is to save headaches, and from arguing with stupid service people!

Anyway, anyone else on here has pictures of their cab???

Are the wheel specs the same as the other golfs?

Fifth Gear reviewed the cabriolet the other week - here's the episode - good scores all around:

The ECU tune will also help you hear the engine a bit more, Aaron. Stage 1 plus Sprint Booster = a smile every time you put your foot down. It's not too loud either, just enough to be pleasurable.

Stage 1 is on the cards soon enough as is a CAI.

I need to get out and take this this for a decent drive to make sure it's doing what it should. My average Fuel consumption so far is a little high at 9L/100km, but then I barely drive far enough to warm the thing up and it's 100% urban driving... given the book is 8.5L/100km in those conditions I suppose it's not all bad really

If it has an engine or heartbeat it's going to cost you.

You've got the same engine as me, right? Does you car weigh more? I always got < 7l/100k, that went down slightly when I got Stage 1, then went up a bit when I got the SprintBooster (is around 7.2 on Race mode (which is fun), but I'm currently using Sport mode which is perfect for killing pedal lag/hesitancy on take-off.

It's the same engine, your DSG weighing in at 1,330kg vs my manual's 1,424kg so I am carrying a little more weigh... I'd assume I'M also carrying a little more weight too since I'm not a small guy, but even so it's no more than 10% total difference. The specs say your Urban consumption is 7.7L/100km vs my 8.5L/100km which is actually almost bang on 10% more fuel

In my case it's 100% about where I drive. I'm almost 100% suburban back streets to the train station and back where I'm not up to temp (which chews more fuel)...

If it has an engine or heartbeat it's going to cost you.

Most trips (urban) my average is between 6.9 to 7.2, or 7.5 if I'm pushing harder. Usually no passengers, and I'm not a big guy. Mix of driving to the train station (10 mins) or driving to work on the Monash (about 45km each way)

With a shade over 5,000km on the clock the average is still 9.2L/100km, although the current take is reading 7.3L/100km. Mind you it's only that low because I have driven lots of freeway km on this tank, hell if I keep this up I could get 800km+ from a single tank!

On the freeway runs it's down into the mid 6's, but is being pulled up now that I'm driving around down again. Still very happy with it overall since I believe it goes faster than the VR6 AND uses less fuel (and has no roof).

If it has an engine or heartbeat it's going to cost you.

That's still very high compared to my car which has a roof. Got some lead in your shoes?

Haha, I don't need lead feet due to SB. It's a great feeling.

Thats because you have "virtual lead" in your feet!

I'm not a convert to the SB, I understand how it works and can see how it can provide a different feel to the car, but I think it's even less useful in a manual car which has such a short throttle travel anyway with no kickdown button or harder spring at the bottom of the travel.

If it has an engine or heartbeat it's going to cost you.

I get what you mean and I always thought the same too before I bought it, but I've still turned SB off occasionally, and no matter how hard I push the pedal I just physically can not get the car to behave the same way as when I have SB on max. Most of the time SB is on the Sport (middle) mode which is how I like to think the pedal should be from factory and removes all the lag that's there when you first take off. Once you're moving it's no different to pushing harder on the pedal if you didn't have the SB.

I can't speak for GTI owners but for the Twincharged the removal of pedal/DSG lag and the response (or the fun) you get in Race mode easily make it worth it for me.

Spotted a white Cabrio with the roof down today, a head turner at least to a VW fan. I wish I could justify (read wish I had the extra cash and garage space) getting one.

The new Golf Convertible - Any Good? Any Issues?

Hi guys, my boss is thinking about getting the Golf Convertible DSG. He heard that people that bought them have issues. Anyone know what the problems are? If any?

Also is the car good. Does anyone have any personal experience.

                                Thanks a lot.
