Yes they need to be permanently attached, not clip on. Its a safety item and I'd agree with that. You don't want something loose under your feet when braking!

Mine foot rest is double sided taped onto the plastic and hasn't moved at all.. they come with screws but decided against them as i didn't want the pedal to rattle/click under your foot etc.

There's a bit of a difference between a foot rest and a brake pedal though....

          Yeah one's a foot rest and one's a pedal.

You don't want either coming loose though.

Double-sided taped my GTI footrest pedal instead of using the screws as G-rig did, no problems thus far. Just to make mine look at home and prevent dirt from getting into the holes/slots, I've filled them with 3mm thick rubber shoe sole cutouts. It's a bit labour intensive to fill all the slots perfectly but it can be done except the GTI letterings. By the way, mine is not the OSR that comes with the rubber studs.
Actually, this pedal took 5x longer to finish compared to fitting the LED tailights!

google Osir Design USA, they sell RHD version, comes with proper plastic black inserts, not one of those cheap ones on ebay that leaves you with a blank holes that could just gather dirts in it over time.

                        Got it from parts4euro.

I originally had a cheap eaby C&C one for the R32 but wouldn't work out how to fill the gaps to the plastic/rubber poked through without cutting as separate pieces (which may become dislodged). They also have no grip and don't really match the other pedals.

Ryan OSIR make good RHD versions for the GTI one however the .:R logo had copyright so never got one on the last car. Not sure if it will be the same story for the R. Although the letter 'R' is hardly copyright material. It's still worth the time to prepare the pedal before just screwing it on. Without some tape it may rattle around as the plastic insert isn't 100% fixed in place.

I did a short DIY write up here:
OSIR O-Rest (dead pedal) Installed - RHD cars AUS delivered RHD cars don't have a matching dead pedal from the factory so got an Osir O-rest (from parts4euro). It's a good match with the other pedals but the finish was a bit dirty so I took the black plastic inserts out, gave it a clean with...

I've just gone and bought the OSIR RHD footrest - they're out of stock at the moment, hopefully the AUD doesn't crash before they arrive.

I was offered free 5-10 day shipping to Australia, which was a pleasant surprise.

I did consider the eBay option - one with the R logo would look very nice, but as others have said the cut outs are likely to gather dirt, and the rubber inserts do look nicer.

Thought I'd revive this one a bit after seeing this post in General: http://www.vwwatercooled.org.au/f40/...%25-52445.html

Oh and can someone list which eBay seller for the RNS510 and BT kits etc? Every post I found just had "the polish guy" like its some dark secret hehe. Thinking of putting the RNS510 in mine, and moving the RCD510 with a BT module into the missus Polo as something to do when I'm bored over the holidays!

Just out of curiosity - has anyone here thought about the DSG knob upgrade to this one?

It might be a better upgrade for us non-GTI peasants but even still, I like it more than the GTI one.

Here is a good step-by-step guide for upgrading the peasant model (requiring heating/bending the shift rod to go from 3PM to 12PM position) but it would be similar but easier for GTI owners to just remove the GTI DSG knob/surround and replace with the S-tronic one.

                              TTS-S-tronic DSG knob upgrade DIY
I don't recall seeing a S-tronic knob retrofit on a Mk6 but would think that something similar will be offered o a ltd. edition or upgraded model in future.

and part number details here: http://www.a5oc.com/forums/showthread.php?p=141033

(Don't worry about the RS5 badge in that pic as the OEM ones on eBay are normally s-tronic and on another thread there's an install there that badge is just CF and looks great)
