Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Where would one start looking to get this? I'll call the service centre tomorrow, but I have my doubts

Here's the part, I don't have the part number handy but could look it up if the dealer can't find it.

        Thanks Maverick,

I've found a place that will install a bracket and fire extinguisher for $170 Contact European Autotech | European Autotech Sydney. They haven't yet made one for the mk6, but all that is involved is confirming measurements, and making a custom aluminium bracket and then attaching it to the existing seat bolts. I'm going to get this and the APR software from them in the coming weeks, so i'll keep everyone posted!

Does anyone know the part number of this item and if it will fit in under the seat of an R? Can't put it under the drivers seat because I have the bluetooth thing there.

i'd say that if someone were going to mount a +5kg metal object directly behind your lower limbs, that 25g rating might be an excellent idea. exiting the vehicle after a wreck can be hard enough without a shattered leg. as far as accessibility goes, make sure the exinguisher is not a powder extuinguisher if you plan on using it to fight a fire while you are still in the car. you could do it, but the only positive would be that the powder from the extinguisher would probably kill you before the fire did. even if it didn't, you'd be in bad shape for having breathed it.

              Hi All,

The part numbers for the OEM bracket are:

              VW-1k0882607A - Bracket
              VW-N90897308 - Bolt
              VW-1k0881286A - Bracket
              VW-N90812302 - Pop rivet

I have this kit under my MkVI GTI passenger seat and it works well without affecting the operation of the seat. I didn't use the plastic cradle or the strap though as these are designed for shorter, stubbier euro fire extinguishers.

On mine, the Quell supplied straps and bracket were bolted onto the VW bracket that got riveted under the seat.

PS: a 25G 'load' on these sorts of fire extinguishers can be handled by a single M3 bolt (the VW design has a safety factor of 3 or 4 in my estimates over the minimum CAMS requirement). And dry powder is CAMS approved. You aren't meant to set it off in the car, you remove it to put out fires that occur in places like the engine bay, oil lines, etc.

Gan, thanks for the info. Hopefully others find it useful. As mentioned, I ended up having an engineering workshop fabricate me one.

I'm needing one of these so headed down to VW to get some prices which I thought I would share. Most were not too bad for factory parts...

                        1K0 881 286 A - Retaining Bracket - $78.10
                        N 908 123 02 - Pop Rivet - $1.15 x 3
                        1K0 882 607 A - Holder for Fore Extinguisher - $125.70
                        N 908 973 08 - Socket Head Bolt with Inner Multipoint Head - $4.60 x 2

...although I had to ask twice about this one

                        3D0 860 277 - Fire Extinguisher - $550.80

Conveniently this means you can order all the parts for under $100 then buy an anti fire bottle which is pretty cheap

Sadly the bracket is not currently available and has no ETA. Even the Singapore warehouse doesn't have any so I'll have to start hunting around the globe.

Long story short I'm looking at entering the Supersprint on May 26 so need to get *something* before then if anyone knows where I could acquire one of these or a reasonable alternative.

If it has an engine or heartbeat it's going to cost you.

Sadly it seems that the Retaining Bracket (1K0 881 286 A) is not available in Australia... or the UK... still waiting to here from the USA and Germany. It looks like I might have to find someone who can fabricate an equivalent for me. Have to wonder why this part just seems to have disappeared from stock worldwide

Mine is mounted here using a bracket I had for my Subie (bought it from the local WRX club forum)

However, the bracket was made to be attached to the drivers seat base but won't fit the R so if you find a suitable bracket let me know. I may yet try to adapt mine but as I don't track, no need for now
