Golf 77TSI Details, Observations and Questions

I would think it's a normal (regular) deal, in June 77TSI was going for $24490 with metallic paint. Candy White is usually $500 cheaper than metallic, mats are usually don't cost much for the dealership. I bought mats from the place that was supplying mats to local VW dealerships and the guy told me that were the mats that dealership was throwing in for free.

superpotato - thats a darn good deal for me. I paid $24k driveaway with my 77TSI candy white and didn't have free first service or mats/mudflaps. Retail pricewise, you probably got another $600 extra thrown in.

I got mine from Norris Kedron VW late November 2011. I thought the VW mats you can buy from Supercheap - how wrong I was! Managed to find a new set on EBay for $110 shipped.

You can keep your tsi

After 5 years first issue with the Jetta TDI (airbag fault light).

Had to take up a loan car and was given a GOLF 77 tsi with dsg.

Presume it was the bottom of the rung model but first impressions of the inside
was just eeeeeeeeeeee cheap cheap cheap.
More plastic, cheap looking seat material and looked like a dodgy cheap entertainment unit
with no steering wheel controls so had to rely on pushing a button on the end of wiper stalk
to change the limited MFD functions.
Also found the electric window switches located a bit to high for my liking.

Started engine which I thought did not start due to no engine noise so tried to start it again
only to engage the starter on a running engine . Would have thought this day and age
they would program to stop this happening to a starter.
(Love the sound of my tractor) but this thing is very quiet compared to the pump duse.

Only had 2300km on the clock and all I could hear was the squeaks from the top console where
once you had a nice folding sunglass compartment to now just a hole in the ceiling to place your
sunnies.

Now for the DSG have to say very silky smooth compared to my TDI but all it wanted to do was
constantly change gears up and down.
Did try the manual setting and found I could change up gears to 6th while traveling at 50km/h
which is something your unable to do in the TDI, best would be 4th at 50km/h.
Did Find the tsi wants to stall when taking off on steepish hills , just doesn't feel right.

Freeway driving all I could get was 6.7 L/100, something I would have been horrified seeing in the Jetta
city driving for the Jetta is only low 5's and Hwy 4.6 @110km/h

Only a few things I did like about the vehicle:

Seems to handle/corner better than the TDI
I liked the little blinker indicator on the outside mirrors.
And the DSG was smooth in gear changes.

Well the larger tsi model should be better but for now I will continue with the Jetta and
hope they come out with a nicer looking one than the current model.

Well of course the 77TSI isn't going to compare well since it's the cheapest, it and the 90TSI also have more body roll than the 118. The TSI's are getting more and more frugal with every new Mk are more powerful, cheaper to service, more suitable for short or stop/start trips, so....

Got the chance to compare both on the same section of road Yesterday which included 30km or Fwy.
Best I could do in the tsi was 6 L/100 on the Fwy which was higher than the label on the window suggested,
This came down to 5.6 after leaving the Fwy.

The TDI came straight down to 4.5 L/100 on the Fwy and sat there all the way home.

All comparisons were from the MFD .
I run 40psi in my tyres , not sure about the tsi.

Also a good news dealer story.
Fixed the airbag fault- no charge and did not charge me for the loan car.

I've driven the 103TDI Golf loaner and got about 3.5L instant at 100 on a flat road, mine did the same section at 5.6 iirc. Average is around 6.5 to 6.9 but I drive with a heavy foot. Much less consumption than a GTI but just as fast with APR.

VW can see the diesel small car market in Aus is limited. Just one high specced diesel model in the MK7 and no manual. Even the GTD has been ruled out. That's doesn't suggest to me that there is a thriving market in Australia for diesel small cars - quite the opposite.

After 2 years with the 77TSI manual I have been average between 5.5 and 5.6l/100kms which gets me about 800kms before I fuel up and really I can't see why you'd bother with the TDI version given the price difference. Finally I've done 47,000 with no issues at all.

So all up great little car, the only add ins are Bluetooth and 15 inch alloy's, still on the same tyres. I will keep the car for another 2-3 years but given all the negative publicity with VW I'd say resale values won't be as good as the Mazda or Toyota...

Need advice! Is 77TSI worth getting a multi-function steering wheel plus RNS510?

I am currently driving a 77TSI. It is a nice car (I know I love 90TSI better but i couldnt afford extra $5000...T_T) and just wondering if its worth getting a multi-function steering wheel plus RNS510 for 77TSI? I only need bluetooth, navigation and probably the rear camera as well (i have got rear sensor though).

I bought the 77tsi polo and added the rns510 - loved it. I traded to a golf earlier this year and took the 510 with me. It's well integrated, full of smarts once you get used to it, and now I would not wish to be without its navigation and especially the integrated phone/hands free setup.

If you buy the rns buy the proper vw BT to go with it.

pop in an rns510/9w7 combo and the gti pedals and multifunction wheel (and control module) and replace the indicator stalk with a cruise control one and then code it all.

I did the same on my 77tsi and it works great.
I added GTI steering wheel as well, and a tip is that it even uses the same Airbag.

I dont like diesels, they smell and leave slimey oil on your hands at the pump.
As a previous poster noted, they are at least $5k more than a 77tsi so you will only make your money back after 457,078 kms at $1.35 per liter.

you've really got to be doing 25,000km+ annually or doing lots of freeway stuff to bother with a diesel.

the $$$'s just don't make sense for a city car and short runs won't get the up to temp (and achieve the economy) either. Any salesperson that is being honest and not just trying to take another $5k from you will point that out.

How much would RNS510 and steering wheel cost? I wold love to have have integrated Bluetooth and cruise control they were the only things I wanted in addition to the Golf.
