First GTI is not really quite (there is that turbo & "sound generator") - 118TSI isOriginally posted by G-rig View PostYeah it's probably just paranoia hearing mechanical sounds if the rest of the car is really quiet.

Rattling noise is overpowering turbo & "sound generator" generated sound (under described conditions)
and I can hear it with windows up.

It is not bad like that squealing noise on my previous car (118TSI) but still we are talking about most refined "hot hatch" and for me it is not most refined noise.

Can it cause any mechanical problems ... I hope notsigpic MY16 GTI 40

So you've owned a 118TSI before your current MkVI GTI?Originally posted by MIRSAD View PostFirst GTI is not really quite (there is that turbo & "sound generator") - 118TSI is

I was assuming that it is coming with sound generator when reading reviews like this one:Originally posted by coreying View PostAustralian GTI's do not have the "sound generator".

"The GTI's turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine is connected to an acoustically-tuned exhaust system terminating in a pair of tailpipes at the rear bumper's bottom corners, and a 'sound generator' transfers the engine's note into the cabin."

That noise, as I said, is not so bad - but it is ruining otherwise amassing experience (I was waiting 25 years for GTI)Originally posted by triode12 View PostLooks like you are not having much luck with the MK6s. Perhaps you should start looking at the MkVs.

I have some experience with MKV

yeah - I too thought that it had the sound generator, but these websites often just rehash information from overseas markets, and according to Guy_H and others who have worked on MK6's and replaced stock exhausts etc, the Australian delivered MK6's don't have them.Originally posted by MIRSAD View PostI was assuming that it is coming with sound generator when reading reviews like this one:

Lol... your dedication to the MKV cause is great. But ultimately flawed. The only reason everyone with a MK6 is worried about this sound is that their cabin isn't rattling so they're noticing other rattlesOriginally posted by triode12 View PostLooks like you are not having much luck with the MK6s. Perhaps you should start looking at used MkVs instead. And yes, I know you've said that your MKV isn't rattling, well, you're lucky. Mine and friends MKV's do And yes, I know you've said that your MKV isn't rattling, well, you're lucky. Mine and friends MKV's do
Also, as Guy has confirmed, the parts in question are common between the MKV and MK6, so you possibly have the same issue that is described in this thread, you just can't hear it

Yes you are right, both my MKVs - NO RATTLE whatsoever, inside or outside.
They are more exciting to drive too.
