Golf R Observations and Questions

Nope. No current VW head unit can receive digital radio in Australia.
It's available in the UK, but it wouldn't surprise me if Australia's politicians made the same mistake they did with digital TV and set their own standards which "aren't quite compatible" with what standards one of the major regions (USA, EU, etc) developed, therefore denying Australians of quality and affordable products which are available to the rest of the world...

I actually attended a DAB+ conference last Friday.
There are 2 main types of Digital Radio.
DAB (been around in the UK and Germany since 2003).
DAB+ which has been available in Australia for around 18 months and is available in all capital cities.
The service will drastically be improved over the coming years with much better coverage.

Just last year, Germany switched over to DAB+ so in the coming years, it won't be anything out of the ordinary for VW group cars (and all other German cars) to come with the factory fitted DAB+ radios that work very well in Australia.

Currently, there are no cars in Australia that come with DAB+ from the factory.
BMW is tipped to be the first with some on their way.

I did 2,500 KM in the first four days, the exhaust note does get a little louder. More turbo sounds etc. It was still lame. So I tuned the **** out of it.

What have you done to yours so far?

Oh and my poor mum observed last night how awesome the R is in the rain. Don't think she'll get in the car with me again for another 3-4yrs at least! At one point I think she went to reach for the handbrake because the jesus bar wasn't enough. Good times!

I have done a lot of stuff for how long I have had it and only more to come. If you wanna know I can PM you. I normally don't list my mods on a forum.

I observe that the Golf R DSG is in fact an automatic vehicle. You can call it an automated mechanical manual side twin scissor plate crust wagon.. but at the end of the say.. its an automatic. Its a good automatic - but its an automatic.

Ad-Nauseum all you want, even VW state it in their build orders..

Yup.. an automatic in the same way as F1s are automatics..
