Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

The intercooler lowers the temp of the charged air, so you will be more performance more of the time. It's not necessary, but I'm glad I have it.

Only based on what 3 dealers have told me. I'm happy to be convinced otherwise
Some people wait until the warranty has expired, other people have it done prior to delivery! There is no "correct" time to get it from a technical point of view. So it's really up to you.
I had it done at 1500km and that was painful enough for me.... coming from a Polo GTI, lol.

    • Has anyone put 235/40 Tyres on 18" Rims for the GOlf R

It seems people have been using the 235 Width Tyres on 19" Rims and having some scrubbing problems on the R.

      Little feedback would be grand.

      • The 19" Talladegas are 8" wide and therefore. The "optimal tyre width" for them is 225, however they fit 235 fine.
The 18" Talladegas are 7.5" wide. 225's are a little above the "optimal tyre width" but still fit fine. 235's are not recommended for 7.5" width rims.

        • Thanks Corey,

Im going to be fitting them to some R18 x 8" OZ wheels so I dont destroy my Road tyres on track days.

Question Answered though the 235 tyres fit! which is excellent.

          • Yeah - as long as the offsets suitable then you'll be alright. In racing you also aren't typically using as much steering angle as you'd do so on the road...

            • Agree,

Will send some photos through of the next Track day when I have sorted out these wheels.

              • For people out there who have changed wheels etc, does anyone want to get rid of their OEM 19" Dunlops?

I need to replace one and it seems that you can't farken get them. Have tried a number of sources and the answer back was Dunlop has either discontinued them entirely or are not currently producing them (and no ETA).

Yeah, if you need full lock when on a track, you probably have other things to worry about than a bit of scrubbing on the tyres!

                  • Guys,
am looking for some good websites for wheels that will fit R.
I have trolled wheels pic thread but little info on where to look for wheels.
All the local tyre places look at me with blank expressions when I mention its a VW. lots of options for Commodes and Falcoons.

                    Is offset 45?

FWIW I am looking for a 18" wheel predominately in red and black.

Corey, feel free to move this if required?

Does anyone have a car without MDI?

I didn't pay for MDI, but I have the cable attached in console.

Is that standard, and all cars come with the attachment, but not the software to run it?????

Bugger it, I'll go out and try it.lol.

                          • Wow, I wonder how often VW add something not ordered?
and NO, I didnt order it, or pay for it, have gone back and checked Invoice.
                            Anyone else scored free MDI?

I initially thought they were including it free with MY11.5, but you'd think they would be shouting it from the mountain if that was the case.

Any way, I am happy as my original order which I cancelled had it ticked.
                            Happy days.

Will have to go get IPhone cable now.
