Golf R Observations and Questions

Quick observation about my R - the A/C dials are chrome rather than Matt black and my parking sensors don't have the mute option on the screen. Does this mean my model isn't an MY11?

Also, my front left sensor next to the number plate holder is stuffed...it keeps telling me that an object is right in front of it all the time! And no, the plates aren't covering it. It was fine several days ago. Anyone else have this issue?

Going back to my dealer this Saturday to get it checked. Didn't expect an electrical "issue" to pop up so fast.

Now I have a stranded jetski

Since splitting with my wife, I thought I had pulled a master stroke with settleing the two cars. She got the 2009 Prado GXL and i got the soon to be delivered Golf R.

Unfortunatly I have dropped a huge b0ll0ck, as i have just read that the Golf R cannot have a towbar fitted and as such, I now have nothing to tow the jet ski and trailer with, as the towbar was on the Prado.

Is this correct, as I struggle to apprehend that a major vehicle manufacturer would limit its top of the range model by not allowing this to be an option.

I am open to suggestions as i don't want to get rid of the R, and dont really want to purchase a second vehicle to tow the ski on weekends.
And thirdly, I dont want to get rid of the ski.

I am afraid this is the case, I suspect the mod will be along to move this shortly as this has been discussed in some detail.. but the R is not designed for a towbar. I would suggest trawling through the Golf R questions and Observations thread to find all the info

id suggest getting yourself a cheap Ford ute and using that as a tow car

Mine build is 17 Sep with 11 Oct comp.

I am taking a stab here, but the compliance and the build date are different so potentially the changes will come about for 2011 build vehicles

Not a silly statement at all, although getting a softroader is not going to pull the babes like an R will at least you can tow the chick magnet

What you describe is not part of the MY11 changes. Those are part of the MY11.5 changes. So you won't see these until vehicles manfacturered after CW45/10 (about Nov 14 onwards)

You need to check those dates. Unless you live in Germany, that's not possible.

It has probably been mentioned before but what wheel offset etc do you need for the R? Gonna see if I can find a cheaper set of wheels/tyres to use for track/skidpan abuse.

I can't just assume that something that fits a base golf or GTI will work because of the brakes correct?

Im sure I saw a volume control in the setup menu on the RCD somewhere. Or you could just press the button behind the shifter and turn it off. It isn't that annoying and if you're just sitting there with it going, you obviously don't need to have it still beeping at you so turn it off.
