You could just wrap the car in the performance shade i.e white and then the rims would look fine
Haha that is true... but a wrap would probably end up more than a new set of wheels?
which reminds me... I might have to give you a call some time about a tune. I live down in Sans Souci and I've been researching on tunes for my R and I heard you're the man!
No, the reverse, wind tunnel tests have shown White to be a drag on performance . Also independent surveys have also found owners secretly are having affairs with their fridge

Just picked up a 2012 mk6 R, really enjoying the car. Came with a Stage 2 Viezu, VWR intake and Milltek TBE.
A niggle I have though, it has a vibration/shudder when idling in drive. Becomes milder if I put it in neutral, goes away completely in manual/sport mode (likely due to idle rpm jumping up) but its repeatable every time. It seems from my searching that the downpipe is to blame, however considering the number of people here with downpipes there doesn't seem to be many who report this problem.
Has anyone here experienced similar problems? The only solution it seems is to raise the idle RPM, which seems like a short term fix.

I doubt it would be the dump if its the Milltek but yes as above check the mounts. Lots of guys fit these and you can tell straight away. Personally I don't like them at all as IMO it doesn't suit the car making it seem quite harsh and cheap but that's just me and maybe I'm getting old as some guys love this
Any recommendations on how to improve the initial launch ?
In a DSG, when stopped, and then going full throttle, there is a whole second or two where the car sits doing nothing, im maybe assuming the gear engaging, before it actually starts moving, which can be a game ender in those quick traffic light merging lane scenarios
ive read up on DNA stage 1 tune or a dsg software tune, and understand they increase kw, torque and\or shift speeds, but nothing in regards to getting rid of the initial launch lag

Assuming the DNA DSG tune applies similar changes to the APR version, don't expect the take-off lag to improve at all as a result.
The standing start performance of the Golf R DSG is pathetic, and it is a function of how the 6 speed DSG was designed rather than something that can be improved through software.
It's worse in a Stage 3 car where there's turbo lag to compound the issue, but my wife's 1.4 Beetle with the 7 speed DSG will slaughter the R in a standing start race to the other side of the intersection purely in how the gearbox picks up from stationary.
The only way to make the R respond off the line is with launch control - at the Cooma 1000 last year my Golf recorded a 2 second 0-100 difference (5.8s vs 3.9) between launch control and a regular 'foot to floor' launch. Obviously that's not a solution for the real world.

You guys are good-checked with the previous owner, it does have engine/transmission mounts (although not sure of brand)
I was told it is necessary once you do stage 2, would that mean if I take it off I'll run into problems in the future?
Also the AC doesn't affect the vibrations, and since neutral makes it better I guess it's probably the transmission mount?

The only improvement i could suggest is turn off TCS and practice, i still have stock DSG file in mine and it gets off the line pretty well, yes there is a pause like all DSG's but once it hooks up it really goes. One thing that has improved this is the intake, getting it to breath better helps with the turbo spool and more power sooner, my car is just tune and intake, no huge power yet i found there to be only 0.5-0.6sec difference between sport manual (TCS off) and launch control (5.0 vs 4.4). So i guess the only real help is "sport mode" + "TCS Off" + "Flat to the floor" and if you dont have CAI then get one

And this is my main problem
Those quick traffic light drags/merges, where by the time my car actually starts moving, the 8 seater people mover next to me is half way across the intersection
