Hi Brimway, hope you get this sorted, I've not heard of any acceleration related shudder either. FYI mine has 25,000kms and no such problems! Silly question but are all your tyre pressures equal? AWD systems usually don't like it when one wheel is different sized to the others and a pressure difference could cause this ?? Also how bad is the shudder? is it a minor vibration or does it feel like the car is having a good shake? Anyway keep us posted

I'm in a discussion on another forum about the styling of the R versus other cars and one person mentioned the BMW 1M.
Sure, the 1M is a brilliant car (and quality and the drive is well above the R) but it is just plain ugly. I put this together to illustrate my point.
Now, remember that the 1M is almost twice the price of the R.

Agreed. My neighbour has a 135i coupe, and gawd it's awful to look at. I'd never buy a car that looks that bad, no matter how good the drive. Amazingly, the new generation is just as bad.Originally posted by Candyman View PostSure, the 1M is a brilliant car (and quality and the drive is well above the R) but it is just plain ugly.

After washing my car today, I found a 12mm scratch on the lower part of the drivers door compliments of my friendly VW dealer. I don't remember a black cat crossing my path!Originally posted by brimway View PostWell, they have had the car for 2 days and it is not yet fixed. I don't blame the dealer as they tell me that there was a lot of dialogue and head scratching on the part of VWA.
There has also been another R driver who has reported the exact same problem with my dealer. The only thing that I'm worried about is the comment from the service advisor that VW are not sure whether to begin a replacement process or maybe it is just a feature ??? that could be normal???? and replacing the Haldex will not fix the problem.
Upshot is, they will contact me once VWA have made their decision as to what, if any action they will take. Not happy.
Extra not happy

the 135i and M1 coupes are magnificent beasts, and i think they look fantastic. the only ugly thing about it is the ridiculous price we are faced with here.Originally posted by AdamD View PostAgreed. 1 series 5 doors on the other hand, are quite possibly the ugliest cars on the road.

My observation is that if you are out at a party drinking in earnest and the missus has to drive you home, there is a good chance there may be police helicopters and pursuit vehicles involved. I see I am going to have to remove the keys from her hand while she is sleeping

Hey all, Didn't want to start my own thread so I thought i'd post my observation on an aspect of the manual golf R here and see if anyone has the same thoughts.
My manual golf R, when the windows are opened or closed, driving on a standard public road with little no cars and driving under normal load , each time I depress the clutch and shift gears (mainly between 1-4) I hear all the mechanical sounds, literally clutch engaging and disengaging and gear switches, it's not a bad sound, I hear my friends car mechanical sounds while gear changing when I am outside the car though, I'm just curious does this happen to anyone else? Or is it just me and I gotta go get it checked out (Car just been serviced and all too). Gear shifting is precise still, no problems there just a few mechanical sounds nothing more.
My mates say its normal to hear the gears changing, but it's a bit loudMY11, Golf R Rising Blue, Manual, 5DR, Vienna Leather, MDI, Bluetooth, RVC

Same.Originally posted by Ideo View PostI do an hour of freeway running a day and haven't noticed anything like that.
Also do regular trips to Canberra sitting at 110-ish and haven't noticed it either. Bit odd...
Our R ran smooth over the whole Melbourne trip, on the freeway and idling in traffic in Melbourne.
Suffers far less from heat soak than our Subie used to (tiny bloody IC as well)8VSS2L/16 E9E9 XG MP SPP1 4ZD 6XK CSC5P with an extra free 10kW
