    What was the question?

Basically I see the ask as. "Is the 1.4 TSI in the forthcoming POLO GTI the same engine as in the 118 TSI Golf but simply in a higher state of tune or are there other mechanical differences?

and it looks like VW has enough confidence in the 7 speed DSG to accept the higher power and torque figures of the new Polo GTI - or are there any mechanical differences in the DSG in the Polo GTI and the 118TSI?

Haven't looked yet but as stated it's probably somewhere in the Polo forum.
You know you are getting old when you cancel your order for a 3.6 CC and buy an Icelandic Gray TDI CC instead.

It is the identical engine and gearbox

The question was answered in the 2nd post of the thread (by myself, although the question of the gearbox wasn't asked until you bought it up).

Not worth getting too worked up over the "sports" tag anyway as it obviously means different things to different people. I mean this ad says it all

MariusGT, I mean no offense to you or anyone else. I can see you drive a GT Sport. In the MKV range VW decided to place the GT's inbetween the Comfortline's and GTI/R32, but with the MK6 they decided to not do this. Maybe this is why they offer the "Sports Package" you mention. Either way, the 118TSI is on the same level as the 103TDI - as the two Comfortline models.
hey hey, i am not upset or offended... and i expect no one else is.

it's called a discussion and though a little off topic--> not far off!

anyway. it's not a semantic argument. i understand what coreying is saying and i do agree with him to a point...
putting aside all the marketing jargon and "high performance label" of an R or GTI-> the 118 IS the sport alternative withing the regular range.

          just my opinion.

            Lol. Good point.

Although, with the Golf, the "Sport" tag affects insurance, and also what cars the P platers can obtain access to. For example, a P plater can get an except to drive the 118TSI, as Volkswagen do not position it as a sports model in their lineup. They can't get an exception for the GTI though as it is marketted as a sports model in the lineup.

But as jayjay pointed out. The discussion is pointless. The cars are what Volkswagen make them and call them, and the original question was is the engine the same or have changes been made, and that's been answered

Then so is the 103TDI Comfortline, as just with the 118TSI Comfortline, it's also available with the optional "Sport Package" with the sporty Tyre Pressure Monitoring Function and other "Sporty" features like that

In the end, it doesn't matter what my opinion is or what your opinion is. Volkswagen call it a Comfortline. Insurance groups and P Plate restrictions etc are all based around that.

                  Impressive power output

I thought my 1980 VB 5 litre Calais was pretty sporty (in 1980) and it just goes to show how much age dulls the memory when you read this write up

At the launch the SL/E came with an 87 kW 4.2-litre V8 as the standard engine, with the 114 kW 5.0-litre an option, but from 1979 you could also have an SL/E with the 71 kW 3.3-litre six

118 kW out of 1.4 litres seems pretty sporty after that.

PS My first car (a 1962 Ford Anglia) did 0-100 in 26.2 seconds and you needed a cut lunch before it finished the standing quarter. Lots (almost all) of my hard earned money later it managed 16.3 for the quarter mile at the old Castlereagh dragstrip in 1963 and that was a very sporty converted shopping trolley. Pretty good as the first of the 289 Falcon GTs in 1968 ran 16.4s. Benchmark in 1963 was 3.8 Jaguar MkII which also rang 16.3 in manual form.

Place your own stamp on your Comfortline’s features. With the optional Sport Package, designed just for the Comfortline, you’ll enjoy. 17” Seattle alloy wheels, sports suspension and sports seats - for that extra chicane-handling performance, with low tyre-pressure indicator to help you stay fully pumped. Dark tinted rear side and rear windows optimise daytime driving, while front fog lights with static cornering illuminate any low-speed corners you may turn."

that's a lot of SPORT equipment for a non-sport model!!!!
I'm not gonna get in on which VW models are sport(y) or not, I don't really care what you want to call them but just because a manufacturer does some marketing of a sport nature doesn't change the car in any way.

                    Eg.
Fraud add wheel and spoiler packages to their ****box falcons when they need to move units != sporty
Suzuki advertise the swift on tv with nothing but some idiot picturing the rally version of the car tearing through forests != sporty
Kia probably sell their cars with "sports alloys" so again != sporty

The list could go on forever. But is your Golf GT a sports model? I dunno and don't care. As Coreying said, there is constant need to justify purchases on this forum. Why is that?

The 118TSI is simply a replacement for the MKV 2L FSI model.

Just as the old 2L FSI was available, for a time, in Sportsline spec so is the 118TSI available with the Sport pack.

It's hardly a sports model. If it IS then you would have to think the poor old 77TSI is the "normal" non-sport model.

                        Dave-

take it easy champ. Just expressing my opinion. not justifying my purchase!!

I test drove both GT models, a standard 2.0tdi and a GTI before choosing the GT sport TSI.

If I wanted the gti I would have bought one. It suited my needs best out of the 4 and I picked one up for an amazing price with only 4000kms on the clock.

Why can't we have a civil discussion? The problem is it's all text on a screen and all the nuances of body language and tone are lost.

Yeah, the "justifying your purchase" isn't necessarily aimed at you MariusGT. It's just that there is a noticable trend at these forums. The 118TSI was the fastest MK6 for a while, and then when the GTI came out there was a whole heap of threads and posts with 118TSI owners stating why their car is better than a GTI. Now the R has come out and there are a whole heap of threads and posts of GTI, even even 118TSI owners, stating why their car is better than then R etc (and some Tiguan owners too! hehe). I think some people have just seen a lot of it recently and have gotten a bit tired of it.

One member said to me (paraphrasing) "with respect to the Aussie V8 drivers, you never seen Holden SS owners trying to convince people that their car is better than a HSV GTS, why do VWWc members feel the constant need to do the same with their 118TSI's/GTI's?".

As I and others have said (even in the last 30 minutes in other threads in this MK6 forum), we're all driving VW's, we're all VW enthusiasts and lovers, lets just respect each other and be happy with the purchases we've made. If you like your R/GTI/GTD/Tiguan/Passat/Polo/118/103/90/77, great! No need to attempt to convince another VW owner of why your car is better than theirs
