Just my 2c, but I hate black rims
they look... oil / grease covered
    dirty

and from any distance it usually ends up looking like just an empty black hole where your wheels should be

I'm kind of intrigued by the proposed white Golf R - with all the black trim the wheels may not look out of place. And against a white body, you may actually still see some detail of the wheel so it doesn't look like a hole

For me personally, I think that looks awesome! The colours just go together so well!

Off topic, thinking of putting the "HATE TAX" plates on the shelf for this car and going with "MY R"

        Thoughts?

Without Tax, you'd have to pay $4.50 for every single bit of road you drive on

maybe "iR", since apple is more trendy these days

Was under the impression that our rego and other car related fee's paid for our roads?

            Either way, I hate tax

Just checked out a blue car with black rims today. I agree that blue is best with silver rims, but the black rims are just awesome in real life, sometimes on photos, they do look like black holes with little details showing, but in real life, simply awesome. Count me in as another person choosing white R with black rims.

Know what you mean, can look like the car has no wheels. The black R wheels look better in real life though.

I think black wheels are a bit overrated myself, you cant see the detail and i personally think gun metal would be better (and silver on blue looks good for a contrast)..

What colour combo are you thinking of with black wheels?

                  Golf R MKVI Rising Blue | DSG | 5 door | Recaros | ACC | Silver 19's | Dynaudio | RVC | MDI

I'm very admiring of the R, and would love to own one. However, I really cant see $60k worth of car here to LOOK at. Lets dismiss all the engineering and performance enhancements, I just cant see $20k difference in LOOKS between the R and any other Golf. IMHO they (VWG) should have done some radical design changes to let the car say "Hey look at me, I'm a Golf R". As Golf owners, we'll know what it is, but nobody else will.

Thank god there isn't $20k of difference, and only $9500 (to as little as $4400 depending on what options you wanted on your GTI).

Sorry, I should have mentioned the difference between the TSI and the R for the price differential. As i said, its the LOOK of the car not the engineering.
I think you could make a TSI LOOK similar for $20k less, is what I wanted to say. Once again, no comparison to performance or engineering.

Aah - well yeah. You could purchase the Talladega wheels and the taillights, headlights, front and rear bumpers, skirts, rear wing, and exhaust.
But you'd be surprised how much it would cost to make a TSI look like an R after the fact! The wheels and tyres would be roughly $4000, tailights are around $1000, headlights would be $2500 done properly, the bodykit could easily be $4500 (based on Oettinger's for the MKV), and lets say the rear exhaust section would be $2000 (which is what APR's MK6 GTI catback exhaust is... eventually an R version might be available and I'm sure someone could adapt it to fit). Add $1000 for painting and fitting/labour.

Let me add that up... there's $15k just there!

There was a 10k difference between the GTI and R32 (depending on the deal you got).. so not that much has changed if you option leather in the R - still end up spending more than buying a GTI.

Agree, waste of an excercise considering it is all cosmetics. Better off enjoying the car then getting something else/better next time .

I think you might find yourself in the minority. Not sure R owners are the "look at me" types and quite happy with its subtle looks. The letterbox bonnet and plastic wing brigade already have plenty to choose from (EVO/STI etc)
