My opinion? The 250 is a great drive, but not in traffic day-to-day (due to the ride, the blind spots, the cheaper interior) and certainly not for any passengers (much crashier ride, less space). I desperately wanted to love it, and although I came away very impressed, I didn't come away with the same uncontrollable laugh as I did with the R. And for those of you who may still be tempted by the looks of the 250, the exquisite balance and ridiculous ability to carry speed through a corner, take a few breaths, think about the proposition of ownership and what the car will be worth when it comes time to sell...
Im an Ex Clio 182 Cup Pilot, and those were my sentiments exactly. I wanted something more comfortable for day to day rather than an all out track weapon, and the R delivers in spades on comfort.

If posts are deleted, there is a message why. It's usually because you become nasty biatches and are an embarrasement to yourselves and then I have to clean it up. I haven't ever deleted messages about VW vs anything else...
Please don't imply otherwise, as it sets a bad tone.
I guess we shall have to agree to disagree, then... FWIW, I didn't feel that my posts were nasty in the slightest, slightly sarcastic yes, but more just clearing up some of the mis-information earlier in the thread... And I noticed that the posts I referred to/quoted weren't cleaned up, and yes, they were the pro-GolfR side of the ledger...
Hence why I implyed the above.... If I am wrong, Ill cop that.
Anyhew, over it now... Just taking my right of reply.... Back to the thread

Nobody should be sarcastic when posting something that can provoke other members, it is in the forum rules. Even if Corey_R would delete the posts that were about IS250 or any other car than GTI or R, he had the right to do that, because they don't belong into this thread. The conversations about any other brand car in MK6 section could be deleted or moved to General section at any time, if moderator decides that it could be useful there. But, I don't see many useful pages in this thread.

Danny, I'm a current Clio 182 cup owner but have an R due in Feb. I agree with you 100% on the comfort thing. And have been annoyed by quality issues in the Renault.
I'm now about to put the Clio on the market. Can you tell me what year yours was and what your sell price was?
Cheers
Interesting link on KW providing some sort of Dynamic Chassis Control unit that plugs into the electronics of the damper to fool the DCC into thinking that it's still attached to the original set of dampers. Another method would be to have the guys at APR clear the codes and tape the cables up to the chasis body. See link: '
As good as the Dynamic Chassis Control suspension is with ease of adjustment & activitely controling the body roll, pitch & dive of the Golf - the KW coilover dampers feel more premium in terms of giving Koni style of ride & handling mix that seems to be both firmer on smooth roadways and better damped on rougher roadways. Pity KW don't offer a full DCC version that simply plugs'n'plays. Standard DCC dampers feel more like a Bilstein/H&R type of valving. Could come down to preference. Something to consider when the stock dampers wear out. My DCC dampers have settled in after 14,500km of country road driving .... similar thing with the earlier MKV GTI in hindsight.
Suprisingly ... the Golf R with the larger KO4 turbo-charger still feels moreso like the MKV GTI than the newer EA888 motor in the Mark 6 GTI. The MK6 GTI turbo with inlet manifold incorporated into the turbo spools up exceptionly fast.
Cheers

spoke to derek at european autotech, he said get a mk6 over the golf r. both with apr stage 3, the golf r is only 2 secs quicker around eastern creek. the gti is much better value for money. he also said get the manual, dsg is nice and all, but it still lacks something.
also said the awd of the r in real world doesnt make a difference as the fwd of the gti is that good.
i think i know where im heading

Just remember the APR Golf V1 also has fully adjustable suspension and a limited slip diff....makes a huge difference if you're going stage 3 and trying to put 315kw through the front wheels....even in the dry....let alone in the wet.

Most people with FWD would still probably prefer AWD if they are looking on modding and putting all the power down. However it's not as important as it's made out, especially for a daily driver. Around town they are very similar and may not even engage AWD half the time. Apparently the R still understeers and is FWD bias. Stage 3 would be fun in either car but personally feel stage 2 would be plenty for the GTI given the wheelspin/traction and cost of the upgrades/supporting mods needed.

Thanks for passing on the info from european autotech walbjj, but, i totally disagree with his opinion.

^Especially with this comment^
Real world the difference is big having owned one for 5-6 months and driving in most conditions other than snow.

And here i have to dissagree.
Having driven the GTI in the wet it performs very well, all the electronic aids help you do exactly what you want for every day relatively spirited driving.
The 4Mo system is a nice extra but it in no means replaces a proper AWD system and will falter on wet roads when too much throttle is applied.
Smooth acceleration will get you through but it will also allow the GTI to power through a wet corner.
the best comparison i have seen was the one where it said get the GTI for the road and the R for the track, except i would swap the R for a lotus/mx-5 as it would be more functional for track work imho.

Granted, team_v the Gti Mk6 with the addition of the XDS and improved ESP is a huge improvement over the the Mk5 GTi..
My Mk5 GTi is a biatch around wet corners if remotely pushed.
I have pushed my R pretty hard thru wet corners with a lot of space around i.e gutters trees poles absent etc and i cant unsettle the bastard!
