Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

I personally didn't like the R32's inserts. I like the GTI's much better

unless when you option the leather seats they swap the boot leather stitching to black - anyone with leather can confirm this?
It's still red on the boot stitching in the GTI when you have leather seats.

I think the GTI inserts are a bit reserved, nice but not really screaming sports car. I wouldn't mind cherry red leather inserts .

      • Oh the MK6 you mean? Or on the previous MKV?
The inserts on the MKV GTI were just brushed aluminium. I liked them. So I'm glad that they've bought that look over to the MK6 in the R.
The MK6 GTI has the "Black Stripe" inserts, which I feel neither positively or negatively about.

Good thing about inserts though, they're not too hard to change if you don't like them.... unlike stitching I guess

        • Was talking about the mk6, the inserts are neutral i'd agree.

The cloth on the inserts seems a bit odd, like it would attract things, leather would be better.

              • Anyone can justify their choice either way, so is all a bit pointless.

Its ok, the thread title alone is enough to have many tangents!

Being 30, guess I'm between the so called age group that should be buying an Evo, STI or similar and growing up but I much prefer the stealth/anonymous appearance because driving like a ****head tends to cause enough attention as it is. Plus not wanting the headaches of 2 cars, its not easy finding something this side of $100k that can be dual purpose.

LOL ok so I'm getting old. Should R purchases come with a free VW cardigan and golf pants? I want to make sure I don't miss out!

Haven't you been on the forum long enough to have worked that out long ago hehe? Oil temp, fuel consumptuon, no water temp gauge. The stupid **** is endless!

                    !
Dont confuse sensible with old.. as an enthusiast I would enjoy nothing better than ripping it up in an EVO or an STI, but back to my marketing comment all those wings and flares and dramatic design have less to do with areodynamics and more to do with selling appeal to the right demographic.. This is why the Subaru Liberty GT and RB had a huge following, wolf in sheeps clothing. The Golf R just fits nicely into that niche.. I see that many Sube lovers after the mass dissapointment of the new Liberty transitioning

as an ex-Liberty owner, that would be an improvement to what the did to the new Liberty .....

I'm 35 but most people who see my current car think I'm in my 20's. I actually like the STI but can't justify paying the money for something that has such a crappy interior when I can mod the Golf and get the best of both worlds pace and comparative luxury. I would like the Golf to be a bit less subtle but a huge front mount and a couple of 5" cannon mufflers should fix that

I actually test drove a Golf R manual and Liberty GT (after approaching it with my eyes closed) back to back.. 4 pot turbo AWD cars, but the similarity ends there... the Liberty drives like a supertanker compared to the R.

                              • apples and oranges.

Liberty GT is intended to be a Grand Touring vehicle, while Golf R is intended to be Race oriented, thus the R name...

obviously the liberty GT is intended to drive like a super tanker and Golf R to drive like a slinky slingshot
