List is around $64k on road... anyone want to hazard a guess as to how far down i might be able to go on price?
$60K maybe more If its outright.

Which state you in? Go to Denlo Parramatta If your In Sydney. Great dealership and really professional. Best bet is to go to a dealership and shop around for yourself. nothing worse than quoting prices to be matched off the internet forums - unless your really finding it hard to strike a deal ofcourse. chances are If you have managed to get 60K for a car you have some abilities anyway Try 3 dealers, take it from there.

Agreed. It's like one of the quickest ways to get a sales guy offside. Whilst we do not encourage people to post their prices on this forum, people have done it quite a lot and that's fine... but no one apart from the poster and their sales guy really knows what the situation behind that price was. Was there some sale at the dealership, overstock, end of month quotas to be made, corporate discount to be had, leasing company, bulk purchases, trade in, customer-dealership history, the list goes on.

So whilst the prices quoted give you an idea of what you may be able to negotiate to, I agree that quoting prices to be matched off an internet forum is bad!

I believe discounts close to 10% have been had on Rs so far, although this appears to be the exception rather than the norm. Many people posting have claimed to achieve at least 5% though.

At the end of the day, it comes down to what you can personally negotiate with your salesman, of course!

Wonder if there is any update on eta for next batch
has it moved from schedule status to production schedule yet?

I am not sure how you value a Build/MY/Compliance Plate, but I will tell you this.... If you buy a new car every year, two years, three years or 4 years, so long as you buy it at the same time each year you will pay the same amount of money. IE, if you change over in November every 3 years you will pay the same as somebody changing over in February every three years. So if the car you ordered in December happens to arrive in November this year, just take it, enjoy it, and be happy Dont hold off for a 2011 Compliance Plate![/QUOTE]

Another factor is the trade-in. From the posts on here NO ONE ever seems to have a trade-in (which I find hard to believe).
If one is involved then the prices quoted for the new car are irrelevant. In those cases its the change over value that affects the purchaser and the deal has no bearing on any other person out there. Dealers will, and do,juggle the new car price and the trade-in value to seal the deal.

So its not use someone saying they got a 10% savings on the new car price if they got a really crappy trade-in valuation

              • I believe people would mention it if a trade in was part of the deal.

The discounts are quite good for outright purchases and I personally never trade in as it's a good way to be 10k worse off usually.

                  Yep.

From my Mk4 GTI to the MINI I was up around 6-7K by selling privately compared to the trade in. The sales guy even indicated the total discount he was prepared to give me and said, "you can look at it two ways, you got more for your trade and less off the RRP of the new car, or you sell privately and get more off the RRP", but ultimately his bottom line was the same.

Similarly, I was up a similar amount by selling the MINI privately compared to what Audi would offer me.

On the other hand, when we bought the Mk5 GTI we traded in our Outback. It had just had a minor engine rebuild after it crapped itself on us after 110,000kms (the timing belt was even changed 10,000kms and 12 months ahead of schedule). After that point we lost confidence in the car and there were a few more issues starting to creep in (real or imagined) and so we just wanted to get rid of it. We knew, in theory, we could get a few grand more by selling privately and in doing so spec a 3dr GTI exactly as we wanted. In the end, though, we could secure a 3dr GTI a couple of weeks prior to their local launch if we were prepared to move quickly. We chose that option and secured was a fair price on the trade-in and only had to lose xenons on or preferred GTI spec. I don't regret that decision for a second.

Will be selling privately when the time comes, as the other problem with trading in on a 5 month wait is you either take the trade at the time you place the order and have no car or wait till when the order arrives and have the trade revalued then, which will probably be terrible! Better off selling privately and getting a price that is reasonable

What I haven't seen anyone get yet is the Reflex Silver.... I guess it's just too boring
