The B pillar is fine and most cars have them . I'd rather that than an obscuring A-pillar like most other cars. Anyway if you don't want/need 5 doors then go for it, everyones criteria is different but it's a fairly unique reason not to get 5 doors. You should turn your head to do a shoulder check anyway when changing lanes etc (not saying you dont).

Just get a motorbike with no doors or pillars

Each to their own but you wouldn't be sitting back that far in the 3dr unless you got your cap on backwards and some fiddy cent playing.
I like the chunkier look of 5dr, the doors don't look part of the car on the 3dr - as if you are dragging around a shell.

Anyway they are both good and if most people glanced at it in the street they wouldn't notice as they are so similar.

It may look more sporty but the sunroof weighs a bit..

EDIT: just pulled out my GTI brochure... there is a 20KG difference hahaha those doors must be light?
Just had a look at the PDF. All it states is that DSG is 20kg heavier than 6MT (1380 vs 1360). Leather and sunroof weigh a bit (30kg for the sunroof i think).

Yeah, it's impossible to be sitting that far back in the 3 dr to have B Pillar issues.
But the 5 dr is an entirely different story! Both myself and my best friend are 5'10", and the B pillar is in our peripheral vision when looking straight forward (and neither of us have our seat far back or 'low'. We can both put your wrist on the top of the wheel). My girlfriend who is 6'1" needs to lean forward to look around the B Pillar. My workmate who is 6'4" can see BEHIND the B Pillar... lol

Depends what's worth more to you, but sounds like it suits you and I don't have a problem with mine.

Sorry, I know the 3dr is traditional and all that, but it just looks wrong to me. Maybe I'm just too practical orientated to accept it.

Well, thanks for all the feedback, Even BBP's . You got cut at the woman comments of the golf didnt you!

Anyways, awesome idea's for me cause I was really stuck!

So I listened to your opinions, and decided, "hey, I should go and check these out".

So I drove up to Campbelltown VW (since I remembered they had quite a few there to look at last time I was there).

In the rain in a crappy old corolla and looked at the cars in the flesh.

Yep, Im goiing 3DR. And sometimes photos dont do justice. All the CS shots looked to have a green tinge that I didnt like which was swaying me off the look.

But I went and saw it in person, its just a real nice charcoal colour that looks dark at night.

                    Sorted.

                    Cheers again

Well.... ALMOST. You have TWO capitalisation issues in your sig. One which is an insult to all Golf enthusiasts, and the other which probably only annoys audiophiles

Don't know if i'd get too many options on a 3dr, people will expect them to be cheaper come time to sell, and most 3drs would be base models etc (the idea of them is to keep the price down).

Ultimately your choice though and people spend that much on mods anyway.

I disagree. My MKV GTI had every option except Metallic paint (oh, and the additional useless doors ). Also, BMW's, their 3 door models are higher spec too! It just depends on what you want.

True, that's what I thought you meant by over capitalizing..
