Wouldn't pure GTI be 3dr? The original was a 3dr right?

              RexMAN,

Seriously, think about it on your own, then choose the car yourself. You sound like my wife.

Maybe this thread provides the answer to a question posed in another recently popular thread ...

At the time I ordered my golf, I'd been tossing up between a new GTI or a 3~4 yr old Z4.
In the 'pro' column for the GTI was 5 Doors - which was given more emphasis by the not-too-distant prospect of having kids

This was part of my decision making, but you need to look at your own life and what you're likely to need/want from a car

One personal opinion - having to get out and fold the seats forward to let people out of the back feels like being a student to me. It's not very dignified for the pepole in the back either, but it comes down to your lifestyle

I've never understood this. You're the driver and owner! WTF would ANY Golf owner be getting out and letting people out of the back? Tell them to stop being lazy and let themselves out of the car on the passenger side! Lol

haha yeh fair point, and to be honest, that's what happened when I had 2 door coupes in the past.

                          The point still stands though

The 3 and 5 door GTIs look so similar that you might as well have the 5 drs. More practical, easier to sell, easier to open doors in small car parks (the 3 dr door is longer/bigger), able to expand later should you have more friends who want a joy ride or if you have girlfriend/wife/kids/in laws or just people visiting from overseas. The apparent "advantage" the 3 dr has is ............ looks, which I find dubious as the side profile is exactly the same (ie platform is the same). Also, the seat belt thing can start to be a drag after a while. With a five dr at least you have two extra power windows to ventilate the car and make passengers more comfy.

In regards to colour, whatever you do, don't ever get Carbon Steel...........please.

I agree, you get over that pretty quickly and the 5 door looks almost as good/same anyway (and easier to sell/more desirable). In my younger years I had a few 3 door cars (BMW 318i, Civic VTI-R & Integra Type R) and apart from the ITR, there's no point having a 2 door unless it's a sleek sporty coupe, the others were basically the same shape as the 5 door.

5 door is the modern equivalent and just as pure with CW & Jacky seats .

I had a 5 dr Golf this year. Neither I or my passengers liked it. My passenger had the same complaint that I do, that the B pillar is too far forward and is right in her peripheral vision. I'm not sure what it is with the Golf, I've also had to drive a 5 dr Focus diesel a few times in the past few weeks, and the B pillar isn't as intrusive in that than the Golf. Maybe the Golf's front door is smaller and rear door larger in ratio to each other when compared to the Focus? Anyway. 10 years of 3 dr ownership and not tired of it. 3dr Golf for me every time
