Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • No news is good news, as they say.

I've read lots of positive comments from owners of GTDs - who tend to be quite passionate about their cars (or at least more so than owners of the more broadly-appealing GTI). Although Dieselgate has shaken the confidence of more than a few of course.

I don't think you'd go wrong with a Mk6 GTD, just as long as you're aware of the general issues that apply (eg DSG quirks, Dieselgate and depreciation, etc etc).

    • I love my GTD, haven't had many issues with it to date. The DSG has been great and so has the engine. The whole dieselgate thing is a little meh my only concern is the perceived issue driving down the resale. I'm quite bummed that the boss has told me that it has to give up its place for a more "our" family car, noting that we've had the daughters seat in this car for two and a half years and the sons seat fits fine as well.
All I can hope is that my next car is as fun as this one is.

For those looking at GTDs really as AdamD notes and really like all cars, be aware of the general issues and in each range there are some bad units but I certainly wouldn't have an issue buying another GTD and I'm planning on replacing my current ride with another diesel.

      • My wife has the next best thing, a 2010 Jetta 125tdi. It has sports suspension and has ample performance. I drive a tuned Polo GTI and A tuned Golf R if you think that I might not have valid comparisons. It has just passed 220,000k's and drives perfectly. Fuel enconomy isnt quite as good as her 2007 103tdi but it is noticeably faster and quieter. It needs new shocks imho but my wife says it's fine as it is.

2011 Skoda Octavia Scout now with Underground Performance tune
2010 Jetta 125 tdi dsg for the misses - Impressed
2006 Polo GTI - Enhanced by some of Gav's magic - Absolutely loving it
