    Guys,
Whats the deal with the wheels for the GTD? Some have black inserts and others are just alloys. Looking through pics i havent been able to establish a calender year or MY pattern and my googlefu isnt helping

Just realised, at $45K, the GTD is closer to $15K more than a used GT TDI.

Big T has already mentioned that there are no suitable GTs in Adelaide so it's definitely out of the picture. As for GTI vs GTD it's a matter of fun vs fuel economy IMO.

The GTD I test drove was every bit as fast as the GT TDI to 100kph, felt similar in gear, it's just that off boost the CR has better drivability, so when the turbo spools it's not as obvious as in the former GT TDI. The MKV comes on with a bigger spike though, and it's that factor I missed in the more refined GTD. I LOVED how much quieter the MK6 was, plus the interior is more modern. Suspension felt pretty similar, but I havn't tried the optional suspension.

A GTD with a chip for me thanks : )

Gti / Gtd fuel mileage review in consideration of purchase.

Hi all. Im in the market and seriously looking at either the GTI or GTD. I had a mk5 GTI before ecu tuned etc and fuel
            usage dropped power up etc....

Now I'm looking for current today fuel priced cost vs mileage per tank. Ideally would appreciate feedback with tuned ecus as well as I may decide to remap with next car (I'm open to the different brands out there irrespective of what I had in
            the mk5)

Is the GTD a harder tune. I remember reading a post where it was mentioned a remap will give more hp then the GTI up there with the R. Someone shed light on that I can't see it unless were doing SPF deletes and higher stagings?

Now before the question is posed to give an idea, my current car I've had 6 mths and have clocked 15500 all city driving avg 50 - 100 k a day depends....

            thanks in advance..

              Hi mate.

From the MK6 Index thread, there is a topic on fuel consumption: The MK6 Fuel Consumption (Most / Least per Tank) Thread

There are also topics on the GTD vs GTI etc in the index. There are not that many GTD owners here though.

As for ECU's and tuning. Please refer to the Tuning and Performance (inc ECU upgrades) forum.

Depends on kms driven and type of driving.

the extra purchase price of the GTD will not be recouped if you do mainly inter-urban driving. If you do a lot of driving on country roads and freeways it may be more worthwhile.

A gtd with a remap will have about the same power as a gti, and a lot more torque.

                      Another consideration...

All GTIs are being sold at RRP at the moment. All on road costs absorbed by the dealer. The GTD is not covered under the current sale. The savings in upfront costs could be hard to recoup with any fuel economy benefits of the GTD

OP, suggest don't go buying on mileage factor alone. Many things to consider but most importantly which type of car would you enjoy more especially given the amount of driving you do daily.

Test drive both - they are quite different car. GTD is soft, relaxed and powerful. GTI is light, nimble and punchy.

Safety in numbers also - more mods available to GTI.
