  • I just asked my girlfriend and i can assure everyone she agreed with me entirely

i agree BBP the mx5 is not a chicks car; its a hairdressers car.... purity in hair treatment perhaps?

the only time i see BMWs are when chicks are behind the wheel... the M3 and anything above 6 series are exempted though

and audis are VW's essentially, made by the same company with largely the sam tech, just more expensive

    • Well, I am sure your girlfriend is very nice girl, and it is a fine thing to be honest, but it is also very important to be right.

So no offence, but if that is her opinion, I would not trust her opinion on cars as far as I could throw a hairdryer, and I am a poor thrower, lacking both distance and control.

      • GTI = mans car

Had a nice drive a few days ago to St Kilda beach. Along the way i spotted roughly 6 GTIs (MkV & Mk6) and they were all driven by Woman ( mid 20 - 30 yrs old / Hot Mom ). I guess GTI attracts different market in Melbourne... :p

          • I agree that of the MKV's I've seen on the road, they've all been women mostly. But, it's been all men so far driving the MK6

            I'm talking about GTI's here...no other model.

              • Interesting... hatchbacks are not just generally for girls, it is for the younger demographic, because that is the price range most 20-30s can afford!!

There aren't that many cars under 50k (driveaway) that is not a hatch... take commordore and falcons out of the equation, there are hardly any. Especially cars suitable for someone who is in the 20s, yes you can get a hyundai grandeur, nissan x-trail, toyota camry. But out of that price range if you want something suitable for your age, and actually a good car, majority of them are hatchbacks.

BUT slightly back on topic, mk6 is a very girly looking car, it is not as mean as the mk5.

                • This is a girly's car

the only reason why people think that its a "girly" car because they are filled with jealousy and envy, wishing they owned a GTI.

                  • most people who have a skewed view of the golf (especially GTI, GT, GTD etc) haven't driven one.

Picked up a mate recently who owns a 2005 CV8Z monaro with a few mods (a tricked 5.7lt = quick..) and he was shocked at the 1.4lt in my GT Sport. granted it is no V8 beasty but when it comes to fuel bills..... guess who wins!

anyway- he is a fan of V8's and loves his car. it suits him.
our hatchbacks happen to suit us for whatever reason- everyone is happy.

and who cares if people think it's girly!!
(see above photo posted by Gene.... now that is without doubt a "girly car")

I'm an older female and love my Golf GTI. Maybe that makes it a chick car, or an old lady car? I've gotten lots of compliments on my car, mostly from men. That made me think it was a guy car--until my female boss complimented my car by saying that she likes it because it's "cute". I don't know if the GTI is one or the other, or unisex.

                        • Euro drivers are always gonna cop crap in Australia. Bogans don't like that our little 2.0 cars will smoke theire big V8s.

Oh my friends pay me out for driving a "family" car.

I actually, on the other hand, think the MK5 looks more bubbly and cute hence the nickname Rabbit. The MK6 is more mature and has a wider stance.

Being a male driver, I've got no problems with a female or male image being associated with the GTIs, if the car is that good why not?

                            • I'm in the U.S. The men who have complimented my GTI are at work and are a combination of French, Mexican and Yanks, including some I would have guessed would be muscle car fans. (I guess I was wrong on that last count.) The Irish male boss drives a VW SUV. He asked about my new car, but didn't give an editorial comment.

Rabbit wasn't a nickname. It was literally called Rabbit. The original Golf (MK1 or 2?) in the USA was Rabbit, so when the Golf was re-released, they called it Rabbit again. It's only with the MK6 that they've finally dropped the Rabbit and are calling it the Golf.
