Manual gets very mundane too, working though all the gears and not even as fast or efficient (fun, but the point is everything gets boring once you're used to it ).

A C63 AMG in Black would be fairly manly.

Yeah thats true. And I have met girls, be it friends, sisters of friends, who just love golf's. So that could be a manly approach to appealing to the opposite sex, without being overly manly!

Agree with you G-rig on it not being as fast, or as efficient, but in my personal opinion, it's twice as fun when you get a chance to let it out.

Don't get me wrong, I think the DSG is great too...just not my cup of tea. I've driven manual all my life. I've read others that were similar to me who tried out the DSG and were convinced immediately. I wasn't. It was good...just not as good as the feeling you get from complete control in a manual, and being way more engaged with the car.

Hmmm...I haven't noticed any unusual sound yet. The car only has 300 km's on it. I will admit that the DSG sounds better than the manual though.

I think your'e on to something there. GTI is saying you're confident , the others look make you look like you have something to prove.

Yeah not trying to prove something like your typical young bloke (w@nker) in a skyline or old WRX.

Exactly, a GTI owner doesn't need to race off at the lights as it will probably blow away 90% of the cars that try

I have to laugh at the number of people who have denied the Golf as being a girly car, but passed the buck onto the Polo.

The Polo probably is a girly car, but I'm not fussed with some label, I get lots of positive comments, all from guys.

Think if they brought them in, I'd have bought a Lupo (as long as it was turbo). I don't need a big car, I'm over 6ft but have plenty of headroom in the front or back seats and dont need to haul a lot of people or stuff around.

i agree with you, but i choose GTI because the feel when you are driving it, the car and ur body felt like one, i was thinking to buy a Jetta, but after test drive a GTI with my gf, both of us strongly decided to for a GTI!!

Hmm.. so guys in Skylines and WRX's are wankers..? Interesting.

And apparently a golf gti will blow the doors off 90% of road registered cars.. also interesting.

                      Thanks for the feedback.

Yeah, i used to love tearing through the gears once on the open road in my 6MT R32. The control is good but think 6MT made that car a bit slow but is still splitting hairs I guess. The control using manual mode on the DSG is pretty much as good anyway, you just dont have a clutch.

I mostly just wanted to get something different this time as i still got bored of manual.

I shouldn't generalize but a lot are IMO mostly the young blokes that are trying to prove something .

In that case, the polo GTI owners are more confident than us Golfers???!!!

Its funny, but I used to remember how people used to get pissed that the M3 looked so alike any other 3 series coupe on the road....that it didn't have the proportional "presence" to match its performance. BMW listened and made lots of visual tweaks to make it stand out from the crowd more (eg. carbon roof!!!, bumps on the bonnet etc..).

There are certain cars that you would nearly NEVER see a female drive or choose at her on accord.....how about the Chrysler sedan (can't remember its name, but its so boxy and "manly" its always used as a secret service car in movies).

I guess VW needs to sponsor the next James Bond movie and get him to drive a Golf GTI / R.......that would change things dramatically!

After growing up driving and owning v8 commodores, and a 7 year period of company cars, it was time to get something sensible. I had a look at the XR5, Megane 225 and the GTI. I didn't want something with a bonnet scoop as I wasn't interested in attracting attention.

When deciding between the XR5 and GTI, family made the comment that the XR5, made me look like I was having a 'midlife crisis'.

The only mistake I made, was going with the Denvers, which in the end just looked too small, although not enough to make the car look girly, just not special enough (a set of 18' momos fixed that issue).

An S8 or RS6 would also be a good choice, or a DB9.
