Does it come in an M3?

It will be coming soon, but they have to fix some problems.

First, they also have problem with rattling noise coming from rear end followed by smelly fumes and sometimes by solid material coming from exhaust.

First suggestion was that is because of fuel (food) quality.

But it was ruled out and new suggestion is "rattling is related to reargate".

There are serious suggestions that independent automotive engineer (they call him vet there) should examine rattling.

My understanding is that they are working on tuning and part of that one is to lower it .... but there are some problems wit extendable hand brake ... and nobody want to handle that.

Turbos are increasingly used to get adequate performance from a smaller motor, with attendant economy improvements. Nobody could call a Golf 90TSI or a Mercedes C 200K a performance car, yet they have a turbo or superchargers and require a permit for a p-plater to drive them.

The power to weight ratios only apply to turbo or supercharged cars. At the moment in NSW a p plater can drive a Golf R32 or Mercedes C300, no questions asked.

I think power to weight ratios are the way to go. This is how it works for motorbikes, so a P Plater can ride a "cruiser" 650 but not a "racer " 250. My son has 2 months to go on his P2 (green) Ps. He can drive my 100kw/tonne Peugeot 206 GTi, but not my wife's 88 kW /tonne 118 TSI. The P-plate worthiness of a vehicle could be on the rego sticker.

I agree. But there's still a big practical problem, though, because the "every family has one" Commodore/Falcon has power-to-weight comparable to lots of sports cars. While I'd kind of like to see P-platers banned from driving Falcodores, that would be an immensely unpopular move.

I'm aware of that, which is why i didn't say turbo-diesel or TSI.

There are too many P-platers with R32's so agree they shouldn't be able to drive them.

True. I think a sensible proposal would be to set a power to weight ratio a bit more generous than the most powerful 6 cylinder "family" car, and let everything up to that be available. say a 210 kW / 1.7 tonne Commodore SV6 manual, about 123 kw/tonne. So, everything under 130 kW/tonne on the same footing.

210kW! it doesn't seem that long ago that HSV cars proudly had 185i on the back!

              Polo GTI

Just to finally wrap this up, has anyone actually sent an application into Vicroads for a Polo GTI - 5 door and received a refusal or reply? Most of this has been pure speculation and no real action.
2011 Polo GTI - Reflex silver, metallic. Ordered 29th Jan, received 8th Oct.

You could probably argue that the Golf R is it Sports Version!

It would probably of paid to do some research before you bought the car though. If you did want to sell it, I have no doubt there are people on here who would BUY your deposit to avoid having to wait 6 - 9 months for a car.
When I was looking at a new car the 118TSI and the 103TDI were deemed non-sports models by NRMA, AAMI, GIO and Allianz where as the GTI and the GTD were both deemed sports models and were given the premium to match.

I would say that it doesn't matter if you sell 10 or 10million GTI's they are still deemed sports cars in the eyes of most people. Take the WRX they sold like hotcakes but are you going to argue that the WRX STi is actually the sports model?

Totally agree with the researching, I had to do it when I bought my first motorbike. Though granted it was easier as most places had Learner legal stickers on them as a selling tactic.

When I was getting my first car I didn't have to worry about power to weight, I had to worry about what I could afford. That's one ruling that you find it really hard to get an exemption from.
