huh? I didnt relise that you had the option of going for an exception! I thought it was a flat out blanket rule that had a few exceptions that are listed on the website.

Vic Roads offer an exception form that you can fill out and mail in. and the car needs to meet certain requirements. which the GTI covers everything. However it is considered to be a 'sporty' model.

So if you read my post above you would see that I have asked if it has child seat anchor points, and what peoples thoughts were on this exception letter and if they personally think the GTI meets those requirements. Or if anyone has gone to vicroads with the form and had it made exempt?

I am well aware of vicroads (imo stupid blanket rules) about turbo and super charged cars, which has recently changed to include such models like the 1.4L Twin Charger cars (I wonder if the Polo GTI will be able to be driven then?) and diesel models.

here is my thread back in Feb when I stated I was on my P's and well aware of what the rules were:

But as I said, I was not aware you can fill out excemption forms.

The rules are inconsistent and have obvious flaws, but if you believe that trying to stop young drivers from having access to high powered sporty cars like Golf GTI's is stupid, then you are the perfect example of why these laws need to exist.

No offense to you Pauly, but I cannot see the continuation of your posts in this thread achieving anything positive.....

ADR's changed in 1976 (incidently the same rules we still have to abide by today) to ensure every passenger car (with back seats) has anchor points for child seats, so yes is has anchor points.

If it has an engine or heartbeat it's going to cost you.

If you read the form you are not eligible to apply.

"Permission may be granted for vehicles that meet the criteria below. A VicRoads exemption must be approved before the purchase of the vehicle."

You signed a contract for the vehicle prior to obtaining approval. And further on that same form.

"A family type vehicle does not include sports cars (eg a two door coupe) or the sports oriented variant of a specific model range."

Don't you think the GTI is the sports orientated variant of the range? The examples include 4 door WRX's, Audi TT Quattros with the 1.8 turbo and the Mazda 6 MPS 5 Door. I just remembered you have a 3 door as well so there is no way you will get an exemption for it.

Basically you're out of luck, you may not agree with the law but it's there for a purpose and as it stands you cannot legally drive the car. Your attitude however shows what they're trying to protect the public from and thats immature unskilled drivers from driving performance cars.

Clearly it needs to be lowered.

If it has an engine or heartbeat it's going to cost you.

Maybe someone with Golf 1.6 could swap with him for six months?
I'm sure his dad would be happy to drive it around. Would be a long few months looking at it in the garage, but may be better than getting a lower powered variang then selling it once off your P's however pretty bad planning.

I think it's safe to assume any petrol car with a turbo is more or less a performance model. The power to weight is also clearly defined in the rules above..

Well at the time, it was thought to be perfect planning. I was told by the dealer that if I ordered when I ordered, the car would arrive in late august/early september.

And with people on this very forum reporting long wait times for their GTI's I put them both together and made the best decision I could, as I did not want to wait.

I also recall making threads on this forum (sorry to Maverick and coreying, as I think they got sick of the questions) about when would be the best time to order the car with the talked about delivery dates. And the general response was to order mid to late march to expect a august/september delivery.

Well after ordering the car, I was told for about 1 month after I ordered the car, that it was still going to be late august/early september.

And then out of the blue I get this VIN Number and say, the cars been made, its on a ship, you will see it in mid/late july.

Normally im sure most customers would be very excited about getting their cars ALOT earlier then expected. However for me on the other hand.... not so much...

Its going to be very hard letting someone else drive my car from the dealership back home.
