Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

No need to get personal VW Apoligist Number 'PassatB6'. And how do you know mine's OK. I've got the letter so obviously mine could go bang anytime.

I didn't make the big spend to get into a quality VW to end up in the queue at my VW service desk with the friendy attendant checking the planner and offering me a date in August to pick up my 'new' TSI118 Golf.

I guess it easy being smug when your car is not affected.

Yeah sure it could but the chances of that are incredibly remote.

You might want to lower your unrealistic expectations next time and suck it up.

Going over the top much? Sheesh.

Not meant to be personal but you're talking like it was your car that had already blown. We all own VWs here. I guess any of them could explode at any time. But they probably won't. I'm not losing any sleep.

Don't mean to rile you but its just that people here usually complain about problems they already have. Its bad for the people who have had problems but neither you or I are one of them.

By this, do you mean they cannot reflash your ECU with the SC24S4 update until August? If so can just a suggestion. Pick up the phone and ring around a few dealers. My local dealer offered a 3 week wait, so I rang another dealer and was able to get it done the very next day. If you are genuinely concerned, getting the fix applied quicker SC24S4 may ease your worries.

          • Toyota and Honda are well known for their very reliable engines... and if you like their current product, then go and buy them. I personally had a toyota gearbox fail, and have a friend with a Honda gearbox fail. Subaru had many engines fail in Australia in the recent years... they did the same as VW have done - replace the entire engine. That's what warranties are for.

Toyota have had to apologise big time in USA. Luxury Prius and Lexus very serious safety problems
My present Corolla required wheel bearings LH side, 20K later, had RH side bearings replaced.

Yes, possible problems are a big worry. That's why I decided to purchase the extended warrenty after reading of problems via this forum.

            • Stelex, Sorry to hear that and hope you get it back better than before. Still it is good to know VW is taking good care of you. In view of the many postings in this thread about type of fuel, may I ask what fuel you have been using?

Sorry to hear about the unfortunate incident with your golf. May I ask which dealership in Brisbane was your car towed to?

Thanks mate. I've been using Caltex Vortex 95. Something tells me I'll be buying BP 98 from now on

Got my Golf back today, yay! The only little thing is - they have misaligned the front bumper so that the gap that runs from the head light towards the front wheel is 1mm on the wheel end and about 6mm on the headlight end. Looks prety ugly, so I'll pop in tomorrow to have it realigned.

AHEM I reckon that would be of interest to VW.

                          1) Recommend fuel IS 98 RON. The (95) in brackets is ROZ.

                          2) There MAY be a correlation between the RON of fuel used and the issue. I believe this correlation would be of interest to VW.

pologti18t, Why do think stelex says he will be buying 98 RON fuel from now on?

                          • ROZ is just German for RON.

The minimum is 95, as I've noted in a different thread.

I'm not saying you shouldn't use 98, but it would be absolutely insane if these motors were failing due to 95. Not even VW is that stupid.

                              I have no idea??

I think you will find the 118TSI will run satisfactorily on 95RON (thats whate the brackets (95) means). It would be pretty darn stupid if it couldn't as 98RON is not available in all locations.

Volkswagen Group Australia reviewed its minimum fuel requirement for all models fitted with petrol engines.
The review of the entire petrol engine range, which took into account current Australian fuel quality standards and the operating range of Volkswagen’s petrol engine, resulted in the reduction of the minimum fuel RON requirement on almost all engines.
Volkswagen now recommends a minimum 95RON for all petrol engines with the exception of three current models; Passat R36, Passat CC V6 and Golf R32 models.
The change to Volkswagen’s recommendation for the use of 95RON fuel is for all model year 2010 vehicles.
The vehicles affected by this change are listed below:

                              • BP doesn't have a large presence around my area, but Shell vPower (98 RON) is readily available. I've used it once in my old Corollla with good results - what do the rest of you think (hopefully this isn't o/t).
