hey obiwan, when you get the violent jolt when downshifting, is it kind of like stalling a car? cause thats what mine feels lik and makes a really loud noise only on the odd occasion as well tho.

No, it wasn't like stalling, it was just like a beginner driver stuffing up the gear change in a manual.

Lol at this thread. Noobs over reacting when they are corrected.
Also arguing with mavrick is like argiing with a teacher, sure its fun but deep down you know your more stupid than they are.
My advice; save yourself from major embarrassment and listen to what the man says... Cause I'd stake my left nut he knows more about the GTI then 95% of the people here.

RE: your issues, I have a interesting shift from 3rd->2nd in D, its like its searching for a gear, or the clutch plate is almost non existent... If you get a bang or a jolt something is majorly wrong and I'd get it reset asap.

Mine's not a GTI, it's a 7 speed dry clutch DSG in the 118TSI, and I love the blip on downshift (no BOOM though). I was going down some steep hills in D on the weekend and noticed the gearbox holding lower gears. It also lets it rev out more than it used to. Maybe the Gearbox is learning.

Corey, you spoil all my fun.

not sure about the s mode as not used it much, when have used it found it hung onto gears a fair bit which was a bit annoying. I did push it pretty hard, this was in D and incidendtly also soon found it doing 140 ! and havign only got upto 4th. so likely just stick with D, dont really need the frenetic nature of the S mode I dont think.
