wow a big process, quite stupid getting an aftermarket sunroof. Its only a window on the top, i've never liked sunroofs for some reason, maybe because i ride bikes and have had a convertible before.
I don't think it is something of a sudden change of mind thing, either get it on order or don't get it

lets not go in to "sunroof sux topic"
before I start on aftermarket one lets just make it clear that Im talking about 3-5 years old ones...
after market one had 3 memory buttons (original one had ...0)
after market one was closing automatically after engine was off original one was not.... (im sure that can be fixed with some hacking but that how it was)
no one give the warranty on original one past 3 years any way... after market one had 2 years warranty
I agree that u might be taking some chances with after market ones but im sure if you do your research you can find someone to make a good quality one...
I do agree there is an issue with all that, however if you get good installer to do your system and good audio unit (not some cheap a55 one from eBay with all the functions and manual in some language that no one can read) it all can be avoidedOriginally posted by Maverick View PostOther than the problems with the battery being drained, poor radio performance (VW headunits have a diversity aerial function) and poor integration with other parts of the car they also don't integrate with the MFD. MFD integration offers sat nav instructions, a compass all the time, street names, audio information including radio which means you can display different information on the headunit and the MFD at the same time. His: Golf6 5door GTI DSG Carbon Sunroof MDI and 18" Drag rims + sticker that gives extra horse power

U press the button and it stays openOriginally posted by coreying View PostBut but, what if you want to have the sunroof stay open when you left the car?! hehe
You can have the original one close automatically when the car detects rain
does it detect all the bad males\females (to be politically correct here lol) who r trying to steal **** ?

Actually factory one has about 10 or so IIRC. You turn the knob to the position you want and that's where it opens.Originally posted by nau View Postlets not go in to "sunroof sux topic"

OEM one can have a six year warranty along with the rest of the car, parts are always available and service is always available.no one give the warranty on original one past 3 years any way... after market one had 2 years warranty
I'm sure you could but how can you install it as well as a factory install with the rolled edge and without affecting the strength of the roof?I agree that u might be taking some chances with after market ones but im sure if you do your research you can find someone to make a good quality one...website: www.my-gti.com

the problem with most OEM sunroofs is that you have to wait extra 3-5 month to get your car with one (my experience any way) and the aftermarket one... u just get a car make a bet with some one for $2k that u can make a hole in your car with an axe and here u go free install
)))
just kidding but u get my drift

There's only two ways to steal a VW (and many other cars) and that's on the back of a truck or taking the keys from the owner.
You can leave the car unlocked with the doors open and it'll still be there when you get back.website: www.my-gti.com

Many modern cars with an engine immobiliser can actually be stolen by replacing the engine control module on the car by that of another of the same type (eg a written-off example), and using the key paired to the new module. The work is neither fast nor inconspicuous, but apparently it can be done, although I expect thieves would simply prefer to obtain the correct keys by some means.Originally posted by Maverick View Post

Sat Nav is an easy fit later (when finances permit) and i wouldn't even consider doing an after market sunroof. Some buyers down the track like them but some avoid them due to potential issues like leaking. Personally i think they look nice (albeit a bit girly) but wouldn't bother paying for one on a new car order.

Heh heh, I think we are all guilty of regretting choices on their cars from time to time.
I have the RNS510 gps on my Passat CC and its a great bit of kit, well worth adding aftermarket if you can. Don't bother with any other make. I doubt they would integrate as nicely. Having said all of that, if I did NOT buy the RNS510 gps, I would probably try to see whether I could live with a portable unit such as Tom Tom or similar. Why muck around with your electronics (and potentially void warranty) if you don't have to?
As for sunroof, I agree that aftermarket ones have come a long way. but I also agree that you are taking chances. If you choose the wrong installer and/or it turns out badly, it will be one expensive headache. I actually did not get a sunroof on my new CC because (1) unlike the Golf, the CC has a non-sliding roof and (2) not having a sunroof keeps the car cooler and quieter. I know many people will disagree, but aside from rare early mornings or evenings, when do you use a sunroof anyway? I occasionally wind down my windows now to get the same effect anyway ;P
I think what I am saying is this: you didn't tick them as options, you saved money, you should have no regrets. Look at the positives of not having them. And at trade-in/resale time, smile. You can use those savings towards some tasty options for your next car!sigpicMY10 Passat CC V6 - RNS510, GPS, RVC, self park, dynaudio, cooling seats!

if people going with this approach "ohohoh look at my next car" why bother getting this one if what you acctually thinking is your next car ... sounds a bit of gibberish... but if you think about itOriginally posted by Leagle View PostAnd at trade-in/resale time, smile. why bother with all the extras when at the moment of purchase you already thinking about what you gone get next...
